    The role:

    Join our team as the transportation maintenance manager, where you will be on the frontline for activities, actions and results of our area to ensure a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that connects people and helps our community and economy thrive. You will be responsible for approximately 429 lane miles of highway and 9 permanent and 3 seasonal employees. You will implement current and long-term plans, manage several programs, budgeting and all maintenance operations of state highways and related facilities within our district.     A day in the life:

    • Manage, direct, and prioritize maintenance work activities.
    • Make hiring and termination decisions.
    • Evaluate personnel performance of employees, develop staff and hold them accountable.
    • Develop short and long-term plans to improve productivity.
    • Serve as a member of the district management team.
    • Manage the winter maintenance and operations program,
    • Serve as a local ODOT representative in contact with the public, law enforcement, media and local government officials during emergencies or when resolving local issues.
    • Respond to emergencies and act as incident command by providing direction to staff, other agencies, media or the public until the appropriate parties are on scene.
    • Manage fleet equipment assigned to the maintenance section.
    • Attend and participate in project development meetings.
    • Oversee development and management of section maintenance budget.
    • May be assigned irregular work schedules and required to work in hazardous and heavy traffic conditions.

    Minimum qualifications:

    Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience;

    OR

    Two years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.

    Special qualifications:

    • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
    • This position requires a maximum 60 minute response time to 1840 S Highway 395, Hermiston, OR 97838 for emergency call-outs.
