    Job Overview:

    Were looking for a highly self-motivated Associate Director/Director of Chemical Process Development of small molecule drug candidates, who is responsible for conducting a productive experimental program, managing scientific efforts and resources, communicating results and issues within the projects and the organization effectively, and leading a team of professional scientists.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Lead thechemical process team, including chemical process R&D and GMP kilo-lab.
    • Lead process development and kilo-lab projects including assigning duties to junior staff, summarizing data in reports, troubleshooting technical problems, leading client meetings, and achieving delivery and timelines with budget.
    • This position will require managing multiple projects at a time with associated staff. Stimulate appropriate cooperative efforts on development projects between departments.
    • Solve the more complex chemical problems which arise in the group. Develop robust and safe processes to the target compounds that ensure safe and reproducible scaling in large scale equipment.
    • Develop alternate synthetic routes to target compounds, and modify reactants and/or equipment as required.
    • Supervise the work of scientists assigned. This includes the responsibility for the appropriate motivation, education, efficiency, evaluation, and productivity of the scientists. Conduct performance reviews. Ensure employees have access to tools and information for career development opportunities and actively participates in employee growth and development. Plan and deliver on-the-job training.
    • Oversee laboratory operations in a safe manner. Ensure process safety guidelines are followed when scaling processes.
    • Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
    • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

    Experience Requirements - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

    • Ph.D. in Chemistry, or other applicable science field and at least seven years of relevant industry experience OR; Masters degree and twelve years of relevant experience.
    • Experience in process research and development with demonstrated success in scaling processes in a kilo lab scale.
    • Understand the concepts of reaction kinetics, design of experiments, solubility and crystallization, mass transfer, heat transfer and process safety.
    • Experience and knowledge of GMP compliance, and relevant ICH quality guidelines.
    • Experience with chemical process technology transfers to manufacturing sites is a plus.
    • Experience in managing scientific staff.
    • Ability to independently plan, organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills for effectively communication internally and externally.
