    Description
    Interprets the facility's policies and procedures to employees, residents, and family members, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.

    Assists the Administrator in establishing the short and long term goals.

    Hires, orients, schedules, evaluates, commends, counsels, and recommends the termination of assigned staff with the assistance of Human Resources.

    Assures that the plan of care is carried out promptly and effectively.

    Communicates with and serves as a liaison between nursing, resident, resident's family, significant other, physician and surrounding community.

    Promotes an environment in which the resident care team can work cooperatively toward objectives.

    Seeks assistance from appropriate resource persons as necessary in solving clinical and management problems.

    Directs, supervises, delegates and evaluates nursing care provided to the residents by using professional skills and judgments.

    Ensures that resident care is provided according to policy, procedure and resident care standards on his/her unit. Ensures that care is documented accurately on resident record and plan of care.

    Collaborates with physicians in planning.

    Demonstrates cost conscious use of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in optimum condition. Assumes responsibility for unit fiscal management with Administrator.

    Functions as clinical and managerial resource to guide and validate the independent decision making of the staff.


    Conducts unit meetings as needed with staff or provides written communication that provides feedback from staff to nursing administration and vice versa.

    Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel as may be required.


    Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.

    Current State Nursing License, mandatory. BSN highly preferred. At least three years recent clinical experience.

    Knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines of state and federal agencies pertinent to long term care required.

    health care management experience and long term care management experience essential.

    BLS required.
