    Default job background
    Description
I am a mechanical mentor for FRC 2363, Triple Helix.

My day job is working for Analytical Mechanics Associates (http:
//ama- ) as a mechanical engineer, based at NASA Langley Research Center. AMA is the largest provider of technical contractor support to LaRC, and I am the group supervisor of the group that supports the Mechanical Systems Branch.

There is a good chance I'll be looking to hire a few more good engineers in the very near future.

If you are interested in working at NASA LaRC on some very cool projects, PM me for my work email address, and send me a resume.

Examples of the types of work people in my group are currently working on:
Mechanical design and integration of the SAGE III on ISS experimental instrument (google it). Also designing support equipment for environmental testing.
Design of a new pneumatic latch system for the Orion crew module capsule crew door.
Mechanical design of experimental inflatable re-entry vehicle structure and subsystems.
Mechanical design support of a robotic arm for use in asteroid capture.

    Lifestyle items of interest:
There are a number of FRC teams in the area (ours among them) who welcome good mentors.

AMA provides contract support, and normal work weeks are 40 hours, leaving plenty of personal time to support FRC and other personal life activities.

Being surrounded by water, this is a great place to live if you are into watersports.
Fall, winter and spring here are wonderful. Our leaves are just beginning to change. Summer is hot and humid.
Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown are popular attractions which offer annual passes.

The ocean beaches of Virginia Beach are about an hour away, and the Outer Banks is an easy day trip.

Hiking and skiing in the mountains is a couple hours drive to the west.
I should clarify that this opportunity is primarily for mentors with industry experience. NASA Langley does have internship programs for both high school and college students. And, NASA does frequently hire fresh-outs. Watch

    for postings.
