RESIDENT CARE AIDE


Duties and Responsibilities:

General Purpose:

  • Performs tasks that involves specific care and supervision for the residents, which are supportive and complementary to facility practices such as providing assistance with their activities of daily living. Adheres to facility Mission Statement and provide "family like" atmosphere, 24 hours a day

Essential Job Functions:

  • Administrative Function:

Reports to Front Desk, Team Leader, Facility Care Director and/or Administrator. Report any changes in the resident's attitude, appearance, behavior and physical ability to the Front Desk and Resident Care Supervisor. Maintain a valid First Aid Training in accordance with licensing and regulating agencies.

  • Caregiving Functions:

  • Assure that the residents and their families are treated with dignity and respect

  • Renders personal assistance to residents such as bathing, grooming, dressing, escorting to meals and activities in a manner that is conducive to the resident's safety and comfort.
  • Responsible to ensure that residents are properly dressed and are wearing footwear that is safe.
  • Ensure residents safety and report any incident to the Team Leader or Facility Care Director immediately.
  • Report changes in the resident condition immediately to the Team Leader or Facility Care Director.
  • Gives support to comprehensive care including medication (oral medication, eye drops, ear drops, creams), incontinence care, and lifting as needed.
  • Documents care provided to the residents in the logbooks

  • Food and Preparation Functions:

  • Helps in setting up the dining room prior to meals. Serves meals. Cleans the dining room after meals.

  • Resident Rights Functions: Enforces resident rights as determined by facility

policy and governmental regulations. Ensures compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding resident's rights

Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.

  • Successfully complete ten (10) hours of training within the first 30 days of employment (this training includes the mandatory Department of Justice Elder Abuse Training) and four (4) hours of ongoing training per year.
  • Must possess patience and a gentle soft-spoken personality.
  • Willingness to perform all "family like" tasks in the Seaside Terrace Community.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, residents, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus.

  • Physical/Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): Walking, reaching, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures; read and write English, communicate with residents and personnel; remain calm under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to take instructions and follow through pleasantly and competently, often under a limited time schedule.

  • Adheres to the facility's Injury and Illness Prevention Program and consistently performs job duties in accordance with the facility's safe work practices.

Attends all required in-service training.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Health/T.B. Screening signed by M.D.
  • First Aid Certification
  • Criminal Records Clearance
  • Must be able to speak and understand English.
  • Willingness to learn more about geriatrics and their needs.
  • Ability to participate in ongoing training.
  • Successfully complete ten (10) hours of training within the first 30 days of employment (this training includes the mandatory Department of Justice Elder Abuse Training) and four (4) hours of ongoing training per year.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow verbal instructions and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
  • Must have a cleared fingerprint records obtained from the Department of Justice as required by Community Care Licensing
