    Summary

    The Wurster Construction Estimator assists in the estimating process from start to finish, from the conceptual estimate through the final pricing accurately and timely. Our Estimators are required to develop project estimates with appropriate profitability goals, and effectively communicate with Owners and other stakeholders on the project. The construction Estimator will actively engage with the subcontractor market and develop relationships with the Architecture/Engineering community. Lastly, this position assists the Business Development team to procure new clients and projects.

    Key Outcomes Expected

    Ensure that project estimates are prepared and completed to meet the totality of bid requirements:
    • Attend pre-bid and other meetings as required.
    • Receive drawings from architect; produce hard copies as needed; upload to invitation software.
    • Select subcontractors based on suitability for the scope of work, invite subs to bid.
    • Create scope sheets and bid sheet, summarizing all requirements for bid and overall costs.
    • Provide assistance with cost analysis during estimation phases of jobs.
    • Review project with Project Manager and Superintendent as part of job close-out.
    Assist in developing the initial General Conditions sheets and project schedule, working with the Estimator and Vice President of Preconstruction:
    • Indicate how job will be staffed; identify required permits (local, city, state, etc.,) temporary utilities, etc.
    • Review insurance requirements with company carriers prior to bid submission.
    • Obtain builders risk, bid bonds, and P&P bonds as required.
    Have a project turnover with Project Manager and Superintendent. Explain the recently won project and any issues that might need addressed during contract negotiations.

    Establish and maintain a strong subcontractor base and relationships for bidding:
    • Maintain knowledge of both the "pulse-of-the-market" and knowledge of subcontractors best suited for each job and their qualifications.
    Provide courteous, professional services to clients and present a positive image of Wurster Construction.

    Participate in Wurster Construction programs and training programs as required.

    • Proficient in basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet usage, Outlook (e-mail), Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. Capable of learning company database programs and software specific to this job.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in advanced mathematics.
    • Must have valid driver's license.
    • Must meet the Company requirements for minimum OSHA safety training of the position.
    Experience, education, degrees, and licenses
    • High School diploma; prefer A.S. in a construction related discipline.
    • 3-5 years estimating experience.
    Evaluation of Performance

    New hires receive a 90-day performance review, otherwise annual reviews are conducted on the employee's anniversary date. Performance will be evaluated based on meeting specific goals, deadlines, and other quality indicators established for this position; working according to policies and standards established by Wurster Construction; working effectively in a team environment and interacting positively with all clients and employees.
    Physical requirements
    • Must be able to work proficiently with computers and other office equipment.
    • Work is primarily working with office equipment, sitting for long periods of time.
    • Occasionally lifting up to 10 lbs.
    • Must be able to travel to job sites as requested.
    Work environment

    Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
