    Research Lab Technician 1 (Animal)

    Venesco, LLC is looking for a research lab technician to serve as a Research Associate I for our customer at the United States Institute for Surgical Research in San Antonio Texas. In this role you would work in protocol development support for trauma and in support of our service members and their families.

    The Biomedical Research and Development Associates Support Service will focus on supporting the Research investigators and Senior Biomedical Research and Development Associates in the performance of protocols. This will use both small and large animal models. This will include Poly-trauma, acute kidney injury, hemorrhage and any pharmaceuticals support required to conduct such protocols.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide laboratory and animal research support as related to the combat casualty care mission and requirements. Participates in activities to develop and improve laboratory procedures. Provide the full range of research support (e.g., develop study procedures, assist in developing project materials, coordinating and conducting study protocol, operate the study devices and related equipment, collect and record data, assist with regulatory compliance, and assist with data analysis), and the full range of research support administration (e.g. technical reports, printing, graphics, library or publication services, equipment, and transportation management, records, forms, and reports).
    • Assist in biomedical research including animal surgery, project design, data entry and analysis and possibly biochemical assays.
    • Attain an understanding of all research procedures before assisting with said procedures.
    • Remain current in field proficiency, to include active participation towards research publication in open literature. Assists with reference collection, organizing and editing research reports, posters, and manuscripts.
    • Maintain all required materials and supplies in the laboratory, surgery, and storage area. Generates orders for equipment and supplies required for research.
    • Maintain safe working environment and work area.
    • Assist in conducting laboratory procedures with special emphasis in biochemistry, physiology, biology, and laboratory animal care, and performs and provides assistance with perioperative procedures.
    • Assist in tracking and storing biological specimens.
    • Assist in performing laboratory procedures and analyses on specimens and samples from animal patients and research subjects.
    • Provide technical assistance to investigators and protocols as requested and learns new methods and techniques as research foci evolve.
    • Assists with sterile surgical procedures on small and/or large animals. Help perform microsurgery on rodents to implant telemetry devices into vessels, placement of carotid and femoral catheters, open chest, and abdominal surgery to place flow probes around vessels. Assist with other surgical procedures in rodents to produce animal models of trauma. Assists with surgical procedures in large animals which may include catheterizing the heart, implant Swan-Ganz catheters, implant other specialty catheters, perform splenectomies, place EKG leads.
    • Assist with instrumentation, monitoring, surgical preparation, care and observation during recovery, administration of experimental treatments, sample collection, and observation associated with the collection of research data.
    • Clean and sterilize all instruments and equipment in the surgery area.
    • Assist in the necropsy, tissue collection, tissue preservation, and carcass disposal of experimental animals.
    • Assist in preparing animal orders and schedules operating rooms, vivarium, and veterinary.
    • Assist in conducting daily calibration of monitoring equipment and analog-to-digital data collection system.
    • Assist in collecting and recording data, including extensive use of computers, hemodynamic monitoring instruments, and telemetry recording systems.
    • Accurately enter and organize data collected during protocols utilizing Excel spreadsheets.
    • Maintain properly secured subject and sample documentation. Record results of assays and assist with the evaluation of data collected.
    Requirements:

    Requirements:

    • 2 Years of Experiencer working in a Research Laboratory (Prior USAISR experience a plus)
    • Minimum of Associates Degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Biology or Laboratory Animal Care or other related scientific studies
    • Small and Large Animal Research Experience (assisting with surgical procedures, microsurgery, etc.)
    • AALAS Technician Certification
    • Microsoft Excell and Word
    • Good Customer Service
