WSP is currently initiating a search for a

Full-Time Senior Civil/Structural Engineer in Substation Design

for our

Salt Lake City office .

The following locations will also be considered:

Seattle, WA or Portland, OR .

Be involved in projects with our NW Pacific Power and Energy Team and be a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to clients in the energy sector.

This Opportunity

We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Civil/Structural Engineer, Substation Design, to provide delivery of bulk electrical system designs for our projects.

This position directly advances local and regional responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners and operators of clean hydro power and other renewable resources.

Work under mentorship and guidance of the Supervising Engineer.

Work with interdisciplinary teams on various transmission and distribution projects.

Perform engineering duties from conceptual stages of projects through construction.

Structural analysis, foundation design, steel framing, concrete construction, development of design criteria and specifications for substation designs.

Preparation of project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.

Design of electrical substation facilities including site and equipment layouts, shallow and deep foundations, structural steel supports for equipment, transmission line termination structures, drainage and grading design, roadway design, cable ducts and trenches, cable trays and supports, fence and access gates, lighting and lighting poles and foundations.

Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.

Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.

Procurement of materials, project cost estimating, and quality control reviews.

Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.

Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.

Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.

Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects.

Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.

Work with drafting resources to prepare drawings and specifications for various deliverables.

Regularly meets and corresponds with clients, material vendors, sub-contractors, etc.

You will be joining the premier engineering firm leading innovation and growth in hydropower and pumped storage, solar and batteries, and wind generation in a local office that supports the build-out of the bulk electric system in support of this clean power in the West.

Required Qualifications

Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately

Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program

5+ years substation design experience.

This position is accountable to provide the design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all WSP's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control

Specific duties include:
Knowledge of substation codes and standards such as ASCE 113, ASCE 74, ASCE 7, OSHA, IEEE and ANSI

Knowledge of building and design codes IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI-318

Proficiency with Structural analysis software – STAAD.Pro, STAAD Foundations, RISA, RISA Foundations or similar software package

Proficiency with Structural steel design – frames, columns, beams, base plates per AISC

Proficiency with steel connection design software – RAM Connections, Tekla, Idea Statica

Proficiency with Hilti Profis, Dewalt Design Assist or other anchor bolt design software

Proficiency with concrete foundation design – slab on grade, shallow foundations, precast concrete foundations, retaining walls, fence foundations

Proficiency with a MS Office, Civil3D, AutoCAD, MathCAD, PDF authoring software – Bluebeam or similar

Efficient communications and ability to work with team members not located in the same office through MS Teams, email, or telephone calls

Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.

40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR preferred.

Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:
Expected Salary $100,000 - $160,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
