- Receives and completes assigned work orders.
- Performs shop repairs, vehicle maintenance, and ensures that the shop and all vehicles, machinery and equipment remain clean and in good working order.
- Takes emergency trouble calls during normal working hours and responds to after-hours calls on a rotating basis.
- Gathers materials and supplies to perform tasks, and in some instances purchases or requests purchases of supplies and materials needed to complete a work order.
- Takes routine trouble calls including: troubleshooting and repairing electrical circuits, repairing or replacing defective controllers or associated equipment, repairing or replacing signal heads or brackets, replacing bulbs, defective wiring or connectors.
- Uses Opticom GPS satellite for fire station preemptions,
- Programs traffic field controller and conflict monitors, school flasher clocks, wavetronics radio communications and Video and Radar detection systems using laptops.
- Installs and maintains traffic signals and control equipment, cabinets, signal wire, signal heads, making necessary wiring connections.
- Installs conduit, pull boxes, pole bases, cabinet bases, and sets poles and mast arms.
- Installs and maintains street lights.
- Installs and maintains video and radar detection systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance including: cleaning, lubricating, or replacing defective parts. Replace bulbs, paint poles, and cleaning cabinets, signal heads and pull boxes.
- Performs locate functions.
- Installs new or replaces bad detector loops.
- Works in or around heavy traffic.
- Assists in training new Technicians and may oversee the work of other workers and technicians.
- Documents all daily work.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of A.C. and D.C. circuitry.
- Ability to trouble shoot A.C. and D.C. circuits using wiring diagrams or schematic prints.
- Ability to trouble shooting and repairing electronic and electrical equipment.
- Ability to use and make minor repairs to bucket truck, various hand tools, multi-meter, amp meter, special signal test equipment, and various commercial test equipment.
- Ability to work with various construction equipment; concrete saw, ditcher, backhoe, front-end loader, jackhammer, and shovels.
- Ability to repair, develop or install telecommunications systems, complex software or management information systems.
- Ability to use computers for data entry and use highly technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD
- Ability to use small office equipment such as copiers, scanners and multi-line telephone systems.
- Understanding of and ability to use traffic control safety devices such as barricades.

SUMMARY
Under general direction, this position installs, maintains and repairs traffic signals and associated electronic and electrical equipment usually in the field and in all kinds of weather conditions.
Work includes downloading and installing controllers; maintaining streetlight circuits, school flashing lights and pedestrian signals; erecting street light poles, traffic signals poles and rig span wires for signal heads; locating power lines, fiber and signal cable, performing other associated unskilled tasks such as dirt work; and working safely in and around heavy traffic.
This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department and during inclement weather.
This position is considered weather essential personnel.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one to four years of related experience.
Formal trade school training dealing with repair of electronic and electric equipment is preferred OR three years of experience working in electronic and electrical field.
Valid Texas Driver's License required. Must obtain Work Zone Certification and IMSA Traffic Signals Level I.2 within one year.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
