Job summary
The Authorization Rep ensures patients have been cleared for Hospital services specialty service and office visits.Responsibilities include providing customer service gathering information from the chart and clinic personnel regarding insurance coverage and reason for the procedure relaying authorization approval to the clinic personnel and physician timely to facilitate patient care accurately processing referrals to specialists hospitals diagnostic centers in accordance with physician orders coordinating referrals with insurance providers so that financial liability to the patient is minimized.
Quality responsibilities include utilizing available resources ensuring lists of doctors needed items are updated modified as necessary attending meetings participating on committees improving meeting quality by taking an active role in topics assuring authorizations are obtained prior to date of service reviewing schedules prior to date of service ensuring authorization numbers have been obtained for all procedures that require one scanning authorization confirmation/denials into chart facilitating claims processing should issues arise.
Financial responsibilities include verifying insurance information documenting need for authorization or lack of need in computer system contacting insurance carriers securing authorization documentation acting as resource department personnel relating to authentication process required services other duties assigned requested.
