    TITLE:
    Director, Ambulatory Pharmacy Operations


    JOB OVERVIEW:


    The Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy Operations plays a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of outpatient pharmacy operations at Valley Medical Center including community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, infusion services, and ambulatory clinics.

    This individual is responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, managing pharmacy staff, and optimizing pharmacy services to meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers.

    The Director collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's outpatient service lines.

    VP, Pharmacy Services

    PREREQUISITES:
    Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Washington with license in good standing, or eligible for licensure, required
    Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited School of Pharmacy, required.
    Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited residency program (preferred), or comparable experience, required.
    Minimum of five years of ambulatory pharmacy operations experience, required.
    Minimum of three years of pharmacy managerial experience, required.
    Board certification preferred.

    Strong leadership and managerial skills to direct, lead, and motivate a team of pharmacy professionals.
    Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders, including healthcare providers, patients, and administrative staff.
    In-depth knowledge and understanding of medication management practices.
    Knowledge of relevant regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS) pertaining to pharmacy practice
    Proficiency in pharmacy information systems and technology to optimize pharmacy operations and enhance patient safety.
    Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
    Strong customer service orientation and placing priority on serving the needs of patients and families.
    Participates in and supports professional organizations.

    Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
    Provide leadership for operational effectiveness, personnel management, and fiscal accountability for areas of responsibility.
    Lead in the planning, developing, organizing, operating, and improving ambulatory pharmacy services.
    Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with federal and state laws/regulations and industry standards.

    Responsible for monitoring the adherence to all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to Joint Commission, Department of Health, Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission, Drug Enforcement Agency, etc.

    Oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of medications, ensuring accurate inventory management, and safe medication practices.
    Responsible for ensuring appropriate regulatory compliance with respect to controlled substances and oversight of drug diversion and prevention programs/initiatives.

    Responsible for leading and managing pharmacy leadership and staff, including recruiting, hiring, training and orientation, performance evaluation, retention, staff development, disciplinary and other personnel actions to ensure a competent and high functioning workforce.

    Responsible for implementation, oversight and management of ambulatory pharmacy information systems, automation, and technology solutions to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and optimize resources in medication management.

    Evaluate new automation/technology that brings additional value to the organization.

    Responsible for oversight and management of the department budget, monitoring financial performance, and implementing cost-saving measures while maintaining quality patient care.

    Coordinate and monitor pharmacy internal and external workload and productivity monitoring systems
    Coordinate and participate in quality improvement initiatives, such as medication safety programs, adverse event reporting, and medication utilization evaluations.

    Prepare and present reports to the pharmacy leadership team, providing analysis and recommendations to improve pharmacy services and meet organizational goals.

    Actively participate in maintaining compliance with all aspects of the organization's 340B program in coordination with 340B program supervisor and analysts.

    Stay up to date with current trends, advancements, and regulatory changes in pharmacy practice to ensure compliance and provide expert advice to healthcare providers.

    Participate in department's strategic plan development and execution of assigned goals.

    Identify and develop business cases for pharmacy patient care services based upon anticipated future needs, practice advancement, and organizational priorities for inclusion in the department strategic plan.

    Represents and actively participates in department and organizational committees.

    Foster effective communication and collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to promote medication safety, optimize patient outcomes, and achieve organizational strategic goals and initiatives.

    Actively participates and contributes to the pharmacy residency program.
    Responsible for the annual performance evaluations of direct reports.
    Completes assigned competency assessments.
    Completes additional responsibilities, duties, projects as assigned.
