    Requirements

    Position Summary:

    Layouts, fits and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on production floor using previously set up mig welding equipment. Measures and marks locations for metal components on assembly table following blueprints. Verifies position of metal components in assembly using measuring instruments: straight edge, combination square, calipers or ruler. Demonstrates competent performance in weld operations under general supervision.

    Essential Functions of the Job:

    1. Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner.
    2. Pick and gather parts as directed by supervisor/lead for items to be welded out.
    3. Turns valves to release fuel gas and oxygen and ignites mixture or inserts specified weld rod into portable holder, and changes cable into workpiece.
    4. Guides electrodes or torch and filler rod along standard position weld joints at specified space and angle to melt and deposit metal from filler rod onto workpiece.
    5. May skip weld-designated spots to secure workpieces for other welders.
    6. Required to work in teams.
    7. Completes defect-free products in a timely manner.
    8. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
    1. Ability to read blueprints with weld symbols and specifications.
    2. Capable of performing standard measurements.
    3. Understands basic procedure of voltage and amp for given requirements.
    4. Manual dexterity; mechanically inclined and have good eye/hand coordination.
    5. Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
    Education and Experience:
    1. High school diploma / GED or equivalent of 3 years weld experience.
    2. Three years of experience at the Welder I level required.
    3. Forklift experience required to move weld parts within departments.
    Working Conditions:
    1. Ability to lift, push or pull up to 35 pounds alone and greater than 35 pounds with assistance.
    2. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8+ hours) as required by tasks being completed.
    3. Ability to wear appropriate PPE, including hearing/eye protection, gloves and safety shoes.
    4. Must be able to work overtime as needed to complete job assignments.
    5. Ability to work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing plant environment.
    6. Must be able to work in confined spaces.
    7. Must be able to tolerate heights.
    8. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing as required by tasks being completed.
