    IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic, structural and molecular informatics, computational and systems biology, patient selection and translational biomarker research, and broader fields including knowledge science, epidemiology and machine learning—across the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS.

    We are seeking a highly motivated machine learning and AI Principal Scientist to join our Computational Tissue Imaging Research team in the Translational Bioinformatics organization.

    This team of computational imaging scientists is responsible for advancing Bristol-Myers Squibb's industry-leading pipeline through the strategic application of cutting-edge tissue-based image analysis and bioinformatics approaches.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced AI algorithms to analyze digital pathology whole slide images, contributing to breakthroughs in novel biomarker discovery and precision medicine.

    Design, develop, and validate advanced machine learning-powered image analysis algorithms for quantitative histopathology.
    Manage, process, and analyze large pathology datasets (internal and public), ensuring data quality and integrity.

    Keep up to date on the latest development in AI and machine learning, applying innovative techniques to improve algorithm accuracy and efficiency.

    Implement and monitor quality control processes for AI model performance.
    Document algorithm development processes and report on project progress and outcomes.
    Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline and 8+ years of academic / industry experience
    or Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline and 6+ years of academic / industry experience
    or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline and 4+ years of academic / industry experience

    Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related discipline; 3 or more years of related experience in a university pathology lab or a biopharma company.

    Proficient in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and image processing techniques.
    Strong coding skills in Python, and experience with machine-learning and deep learning libraries (e.g., Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into actionable insights through statistical analysis and visualization.
    Prior experience with applying machine learning and/or deep learning tools for medical and/or cellular imaging tasks is preferred.

    Familiarity with complementary bioinformatics analysis techniques and data such as survival analysis, RNA and/or genomic sequencing measurements is a strong plus.

    Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Experience with machine learning lifecycle management tools (e.g., Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, and rigorous and creative thinking

    Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to collaborate effectively with lab scientists and pathologists and to present coherently and concisely.

    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to handle several concurrent, fast-paced projects.
    Track record of scientific leadership exemplified by first author peer-reviewed publications ideally related to pathology image analysis.

    The starting compensation for this job is a range from $121,000 - $167,200, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

    The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
