    DEFINITION

    Under supervision, monitors juveniles who have committed minor misdemeanor criminal offenses or are deemed out of control while they perform clean-up details throughout the City.
    CLASS CHARACTERISTICSPositions in this class are non-sworn personnel who provide supervision, direction, and observation of juveniles who are assigned to perform clean-up details throughout the City. The incumbent reports to and takes direction from the Lead Community Work Program Supervisor. The work is performed on weekends and some holidays. This schedule may be modified during the summer when juveniles are not in school.

    Examples of Duties


    Transportation of juveniles to and from work sites; instruct juveniles how to properly and safely use gardening tools; monitor juveniles to make sure they are working safely; hook up trailer to City vehicle; operate City vehicles and trailer; evaluate and assess the attitude, behavior, and work performed by juveniles; use office machines and a police radio; utilize a computer to maintain appropriate records and statistics; perform general clerical duties; communicate with parents about policies, procedures and the program; and provide parents with information about the juvenile's attitude and performance.

    Typical Qualifications


    LICENSE REQUIRED
    • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEducation:
    • Education equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of fifteen (15) college units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminology, Psychology, or closely related field.
    Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience working with the public.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Knowledge of:
    • Basic English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
    • Basic math;
    • Simple record keeping methods;
    • Geography of the City of Clovis;
    • Office equipment and procedures;
    • Computer terminal operating methods.
    Ability to:
    • Analyze situations and develop effective courses of action;
    • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing;
    • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
    • Maintain simple records;
    • Inspire public confidence through personal integrity, appearance, and actions;
    • Communicate effectively and efficiently;
    • Operate a vehicle, observing legal and defensive driving practices;
    • Operate a police radio;
    • Relate to and communicate with juveniles ages 6-17 years.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Strength: Light work-lifting, carrying and/or pushing 50 pounds maximum with some lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds and the ability to work weekends, outdoors when over 100 degrees and in the cold during the winter months.
