    Summary:
    The Director Nursing Eldercare Services/Assistant Administrator at St.

    Mary#s d#Youville Pavilion is responsible for the leadership and management of the nursing department, and partners with the President - DYP to sustain a CMS Five-Star rating (or comparable) and the Medical Director to achieve top decile quality and patient safety scores.

    The Director Nursing Eldercare Services/Assistant Administrator both inspires staff and sustains the necessary processes and structures to ensure that clinical staff is continuously engaged in clinical competency development.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    # Assumes final responsibility for the formation and implementation of nursing philosophy, goals and objectives. # Assumes final responsibility for the development of nursing policies, nursing procedures and staffing patterns. # Plans for future needs of the nursing department. # Assumes responsibility for unit compliance of regulatory agencies. # Assist in the preparation of nursing department budgets (operational and capital), and allocation of funds based on the Nurse Unit Managers recommendations to the five units. # Positions the department to be recognized as a leader in the community by empowering and enabling resident care teams to jointly plan and deliver care. # Recruits, interviews, hires, evaluates, counsels, disciplines, and where necessary, terminates professional, clinical and support staff. Participates in the development and implementation of strategies to recruit and retain qualified staff. # Assumes 24- hour responsibility and accountability for direction and coordination of activities of Nursing Services. # Assumes responsibility for the facility as second in command. # Monitors monthly fiscal reports and utilizes information to change department practices when appropriate. # Participates in the recruitment of nursing and other personnel. This includes defining qualifications, interviewing, and working with HR to hire. # Provides leadership to Nurse Unit Managers and Supervisors in developing and maintaining effective relationships with all customers. # Assumes responsibility for the scope of nursing practice and mode of delivery within units. # Creates an organizational structure which assigns responsibilities and delegates authority to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient resident/patient care. # Assumes responsibility for the payment of resident services as it relates to Case Mix # Ensures that resident/patient rights are protected. # Evaluates plans of nursing care # Participates and/or chairs inter/intra departmental committees and task forces to assist in the achievement of department and/or system goals and objectives. # Disseminates clinical knowledge through participation in formal and informal programs. # Attends a minimum of 24 hours continuing education. # Promotes mission, vision, values, and quality of St Mary#s Health System # Plans for future health and nursing care actions based on social, economic, political and technological changes. # Influences public policies affecting long-term care nursing. # Promotes a positive image of long-term care, nursing in long-term care, and long-term care institutions.

    # Other duties as assigned by CEO Post Acute Care Facility/Vice President of Elder Services

    Job Requirements:

    Job Knowledge and Skills:
    # Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required, combined with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. # The ability to formulate innovative work plans in a team-oriented approach and adapt to a challenging and dynamic environment is essential. # Computer Skills in MS Office programs. # Mathematical and organizational skills are essential. # Ability to follow directions, multitask, priorities while working independently. # Make discretionary decisions under pressure and in the best interest of DYP. # Read, write with appropriate grammar, speak, and comprehend the English language.


    Education and Experience:
    # 4 bachelors degree required. # 3#5 years required and eight years or more of progressive management experience in a long-term care setting. # Valid license as a Nursing Home Administrator and/or eligible to obtain a Maine NHA License.
