- Knowledge of normal child development and of cognitive, academic, social, emotional and environmental problems
- Knowledge of evidence-based interventions applicable in the alleviation of academic and behavioral challenges
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relating to the academic rights of students
- Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques
- Knowledge of individual and group testing techniques and interpretation
- Knowledge of the types and uses of standardized psychological tests including those applicable in the assessment of students referred with possible high and low incidence handicaps.
- Knowledge of the problems of children with physical challenges and/or economically disadvantage
- Ability to administer, score, and interpret a broad range of psychological tests
- Ability to prepare clear and concise psychological evaluations
- Ability to maintain records, and prepare correspondence related to the work
- Ability to communicate effectively with others and maintain favorable public relations
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents and the school community
- Interpret the results of diagnostic tests and prepare written and/or verbal reports delineating recommendations for presentation to the student, parents, school staff and other stakeholders
- Select, administer, score and interpret psychological tests including both broad band and narrow band measures of cognitive skills, academic achievement, adaptive behavior and social-emotional adjustment.
- Conduct individual, family and stakeholder consultations designed to facilitate the psycho-educational advancement of the student
- Assist school staff in the development of appropriate academic and behavioral plans for the student
- Assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs
- Provide crisis intervention to students when needed on an emergency basis with appropriate notification and record keeping.
- Participate in professional organizations and continually seek to improve professional knowledge and skills based on best practices as outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association
- Provide interventions to students to support the teaching process and to maximize learning and adjustments
- Assist in the development and presentation of in-service training.
- Minimum educational requirement is a Master's/Specialist Degree in school psychology or its equivalent.
- Completion of a supervised internship with school-aged persons in an approved training program as part of the applicants graduate degree program
- Active preliminary of fully certified school psychologist by the Michigan Department of Education or active fully licensed psychologist by the Michigan Board of Psychology
