    Position Summary:

    Surgical Technician- $20,000 Sign on BonusAssists surgeons, anesthetist and registered nurses in the delivery of perioperative care to patients.

    Under the direction of the registered nurse, acts as a primary scrub person handling surgical instruments, equipment and supplies necessary during a procedure.


    OR/Level III Trauma Center:
    The Operating room at CMC consists of 10 operating rooms total, 2 of them are dedicated to the CVOR. (Cardiovascular operating room). We offer all specialties except ENT and Eye.
    This includes but not limited to neuro and spine. There are about 6,500 surgical cases annually.


    WORK SCHEDULE:


    The OR offers 10 or 12 hours per day with weekend coverage based on individual unit needs and call based on departmental/unit needs.

    Personnel may be expected to cover for patient care needs by rotating or working extra shifts.

    OR personnel are assigned to one area upon employment, but may be required to assume assignments in other areas to meet patient needs.


    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Under the general direction of the Director and in accordance with standards of care and practice established by the Nursing Organization,the specific department; the rules, regulations and/or standards established by the State Board of Nursing, the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN), Association of Surgical Technologist and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under care, the incumbent performs the following functions:Secures supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure based on patient needs.

    Assists with preparation of the operating room using sterile technique.
    Demonstrates knowledge of surgeons' preferences and ability to anticipate surgeons' needs.
    Follows steps for scrubbing, gowning and gloving.
    Performs needle, sponge and instrument counts with the registered nurse.
    Creates and maintains a neat, organized sterile field.
    Ensures all equipment is functioning properly before use.
    Demonstrates knowledge of supplies, instrumentation, equipment and suture material required for individual patient.

    Follows proper technique for checking medications on the sterile field with the registered nurse and transferring the medication to the surgeon for administration during the procedure.

    Demonstrates ability to assist surgeon with draping of sterile field.
    Demonstrates awareness of cost effective use of resources.
    Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner.
    Uses all devices according to manufacturer's recommendations.
    Prepares instruments for terminal cleaning.
    Assists with patient transfer from operating room table.
    Participates in maintaining department inventory of supplies.
    Participates constructively in staff meetings.
    Participates in and supports Quality Management.
    Conforms to the organization attendance requirements.
    Utilizes self-evaluation process for professional growth.
    Identifies self needs, then increases skills and knowledge.
    Attends mandatory in-services.
    Participates in department projects/committees.
    Accept constructive feedback and initiates appropriate action to correct situation.
    Directs concerns through correct channels in a responsible way.
    Demonstrates behaviors which promote communication and collaboration.
    Functions as a preceptor for new staff/students as needed and as assigned.
    Promotes and participates in activities that minimize turnover between cases.
    Performs duties and participates in activities that contribute to meet the goals of the department.
    Monitors the care that the students and/or ancillary staff provide.
    Demonstrates awareness of cost effective use of resources.
    Adheres to safety, organizational and ethical standards.
    Promotes patients with dignity during provision of care. Provides calm, supportive and therapeutic environment for patients. Recommends revisions to or new policies and procedures. Exercises care in the use and operation of equipment and reference materials.
    Performs routine maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment.
    Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner. Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fire and other emergency situations. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed.


    Qualifications Qualifications:

    Education:
    High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate from an approved Surgical Technologist program.


    Experience:
    None required; previous OR surgical experience preferred


    Licensure/ Certification :
    Surgical Technologist certification preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Currently registered with New Hampshire Board of Medical Technicians
