    Job Summary

    As an underwriter of Professional & Casualty Lines Treaty at Arch Re Co reporting to Chief Underwriting Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in and underwriting a book of longtail treaty and facultative business. Candidate should have experience in evaluating, underwriting, and facilitating management of a portfolio of treaty reinsurance contracts in the professional and/or casualty lines segment. You will work closely with brokers and clients to develop comprehensive solutions that meet their needs while maintaining profitability and adhering to risk management standards. This role requires an understanding of the reinsurance market, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships internally and externally.

    Responsibilities

    • Underwriting Acumen: Assess and underwrite treaty reinsurance contracts within the professional & general casualty business segments, ensuring compliance with company underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements. Lines of expertise include, but are not limited to: Public/Private D&O, Management Liability, EPLI, E&O, Cyber, Transactional Liability, Allied Health, MedMal, Misc Professional, Umbrella, Auto, General Liability, Environmental, Programs/MGA, and Other Specialty.
    • Portfolio Management: Assist in managing an existing portfolio of professional/casualty treaty accounts, source and develop new opportunities/clients, monitor performance, and recommend necessary adjustments to maintain profitability and manage accounts through underwriting cycle.
    • Market Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor offerings within the professional lines segment to inform underwriting decisions and product development. Attend industry conferences, symposiums, and understand emerging risks.
    • Client and Broker Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and other stakeholders, providing excellent service and acting as a trusted advisor. Expectations include 30% travel requirement for client visits, marketing conferences, and business networking.
    • Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments and contribute to underwriting diligence, including financial analysis, claims history, and experience/exposure evaluation, to determine appropriate terms and pricing for treaty reinsurance contracts. Working understanding of actuarial pricing methodologies.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with the underwriting, claims, actuarial and other relevant departments to ensure seamless processing of treaty accounts and resolve any issues that may arise. Line of business working groups, special projects, and cross platform collaborations participation as needed.
    • Reporting: Prepare and present reports to senior management, providing insights into portfolio performance, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Attend and participate in quarterly business reviews as well as underwriting performance and reserve meetings.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance/Accounting, Insurance, Math, Economics, or a related field require. Advanced degree preferred.
    • A minimum of 3-5 years of treaty underwriting experience, preferably in professional, casualty, multiline segments
    • Strong knowledge of professional & casualty lines products, including D&O, E&O, Cyber Liability, Umbrella, Auto, General Liability, and Specialty and related coverages. RPLU, CPCU, ARe or other designations a plus.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers.
    • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite
