    Department Summary
    The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) at UNTHSC is proud of its prominent role in shaping the future of the biomedical workforce. The school has three multidisciplinary departments that include Physiology & Anatomy, Pharmacology & Neuroscience and Microbiology, Immunology & Genetics. The graduate curriculum is an individual development plan (IDP)-driven and competency-based.

    Position Overview
    Direct and coordinate financial activities. Provide information, analyses (e.g. current processes, actual performance vs. budget
    and prior year, budget, etc.), preparation of operational data/analyses; identification of areas for cost reductions and
    operational improvements, annual budget process, periodic forecasting, and periodic analysis of performance.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Conduct team meetings and huddles to update staff on best practices, policy and procedures, compliance requirements, and performance expectations.
    • Work collaboratively with Federal, State, County and commercial organizations on financial operations including contract payment processing, reporting and auditing.
    • Analyze and interpret commercial and federal contracts to ensure appropriate contract payment terms are met for all services rendered under assigned department contracts.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with executive staff and key stakeholders to support contract customers, contract performance, contract administration and operation requirements.
    • Assist with identifying key financial performance metrics and indicators including preparing detailed executive management reports on team accomplishments based on department metrics, goals and objective and project deadlines.
    • Provide mentoring to team members, including communicating strategic plans, tracking metrics, developing team goals and implementing coaching initiatives to enhance department skill levels and cross coverage.
    • Knowledge and demonstrated capability of using proposal development software, electronic billing and payment systems, and Microsoft Office software applications.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • A bachelor's degree in finance or a related field, such as accounting, or business.
    • Advanced Microsoft excel skills with Data & Visualizations expertise.

    Meets with stakeholders including department chairs, faculty, program directors and staff to give financial strategy and spending plans.

    Produces financial reporting and analytical functions such as budget planning, personnel salary forecasts, and strategic planning.

    Ensures financial data is accessible to stakeholders, the individual presents reports and graphs.

    Reviews and processes all personnel-related transactions related to grants by entering & reviewing externally funded ePars.
