    The Heart and Vascular Center of Excellence at UMass Memorial and UMass Medical School is seeking an Academic Director in Heart Failure to lead our growing academic service. We will support our new Director with our core research institute, dedicated brand new lab space, and research infrastructure. We anticipate ideal candidates will have an established and active research portfolio.

    About Heart Failure at UMass:

    • Robust inpatient and outpatient service located at the main campus, our team of 3 HF physicians and 4 HF APPs follow 3900 patients
    • As the only VAD program in Central Massachusetts, we have grown exponentially since being founded in 2018 and boast outstanding outcomes with 2 dedicated VAD coordinators
    • Our state-of-the-art step down unit is capable of supporting Swan-Ganz catheters and patients on BiPAP, and our closed CCU can support VV- and VA-ECMO and the full array of Impella devices

    Opportunity Details:

    • 50% of time protected for research and 50% clinical time to be developed according to your interests
    • Mentorship and oversight of junior faculty interested in growing their research careers
    • Formal and informal teaching responsibilities for medical students, medicine residents, and cardiology fellows as well as attending, facilitating, and presenting cardiology conferences

    Research Opportunity:

    • Internationally recognized programs in digital medicine, vascular biology, thrombosis, gene therapy, congenital cardiac and vascular diseases, and arrhythmia pathogenesis
    • The Albert Sherman Center for research has 10,000 square ft of lab space with 18 bays and the ability to support 80 people
    • Ongoing clinical trials in atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, heart/mindfulness, aortic aneurysms, and more
    • Ability to grow the already existing infrastructure within the department of medicine to be more robust within the Division of Cardiology
