- Trim, process, embed and section tissue samples
- Stain slides with routine and special stains
- Works closely with Management and the Necropsy and Pathology teams
- Assess the day-to-day workflow to meet study on time delivery and expected turnaround times
- Some interaction with clients
- Helps Management with updating and periodic review of standard operating procedures
- Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required
- Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently, as required
- May be involved in process and/or equipment qualifications
- May be required to work Holidays and weekends
- May be required to work overtime Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals
- Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Coordinate and assist in training activities for other Histology staff
- Assist other histo-technicians with troubleshooting
- Strong independent time management skills
- Minimal deviations and specimen rework
- Other duties as assigned and may be required to assist in other departments
- HT or HTL certification
- Minimum of 7-8 years of experience
- Good Laboratory Practices/Good Manufacturing Practices/Good Documentation Practices experience preferred
- Proficient communication skills
- Demonstrate consistent productivity and meet deadlines
- Ability to consistently follow instructions/Standard Operating Procedures
- Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
- Need to be able to read, write and understand English
- Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Must be able to work in a Lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards/chemical
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Clarity of vision and Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. routinely/often/occasionally
- Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
- Ability to push/pull 25 lbs. routinely/often occasionally
- Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing
