    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Prepare daily meals, adhering to dietary guidelines and nutritional standards, while considering any dietary restrictions or allergies of shelter residents.
    • Plan menus that are balanced, diverse, and cost-effective, taking into account available resources and donations.
    • Cook meals in a timely manner, ensuring that food is properly cooked, seasoned, and presented.
    • Monitor food quantities and maintain inventory to prevent shortages or waste, while making adjustments based on fluctuating shelter population.
    • Collaborate with the shelter's staff to ensure meal schedules align with residents' needs.
    • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area, following proper food safety and sanitation protocols.
    • Coordinate with food donors, suppliers, and community partners to secure necessary ingredients for meal preparation.
    • Engage with shelter residents in a friendly and empathetic manner, building connections and demonstrating a commitment to their well-being.
    • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on shelter policies, safety protocols, and community resources.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Proven culinary experience, with a focus on preparing meals for a large group.
    • Familiarity with food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation practices.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage inventory, plan menus, and coordinate meal schedules.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
    • Compassionate and respectful approach when interacting with shelter residents.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and accommodate diverse dietary needs.
    • Knowledge of cost-effective meal planning and budget management.
    • Culinary degree or relevant culinary training is a plus.
    • Experience working in a nonprofit or social service environment is a plus.
