Description
Job DescriptionResponsible for covering Stamford Hospital draw station locations between operation hours of 7am - 8pm with occasional Saturday, Sunday and Holiday duty.
Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or heel stick and collects non-blood specimens such as urine for laboratory testing from all age groups.
Verify the test requisitions, data input and generate computer labels correctly and accurately before preparing specimens for transport to laboratory.
Acts as point of contact for staff and provides input back to supervisor as needed. Acts as mentor and resource for new employees, assisting with transition into SH work environments. Shows familiarity with established SH policy and procedures.This is a full-time position / 37.

Be available to take calls and update schedule or assignments as needed. Trouble shoot to solve issues timely. Obtain blood specimens from patients per laboratory orders while demonstrating excellent venipuncture skills to new employees as needed. Obtain and handle other types of specimens including urine, stool, sputum, etc. Communicate with and assist patients, coworkers and staff in a professional and courteous manner.Identify the patient and access the correct patient record by using at least 2 forms of identification while observing HIPPA requirements.
RegistrationEffectively train new employees with phlebotomy technique, and other needed skills to cover a draw station independently Maintains effective communications with assigned draw stations, which includes communication with draw station staff, and stations visits to ensure compliance and reporting as needed.
Competencies:
Knowledge of basic medical laboratory principles, standards, applications and tests. Ability to access Policy and Procedures including laboratory safety, cleanliness and infection control regulations. Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment uses and maintenance. Accuracy
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of 5+ years of SH Phlebotomy experience Valid Phlebotomy certification.
