    Job DescriptionDescription:

    Overview:

    Cabin Counselors care for campers in the cabins ensuring that the space is clean and safe, campers are clean and healthy, and managing the social dynamic within the cabin. Cabin Counselors assist Program Staff in putting on safe, fun, and intentional activities during the day.

    Specific Duties:

    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Must have a desire to work with youth
    • Ability to become CPR/First Aid Certified
    • Passion to provide a positive camp experience to everyone who comes to camp
    • Good health and a physical condition suited for outdoor work and long hours
    • Must live on camp in cabins for staff training week and while camp is in session
    • Ability to create a safe and welcoming environment
    • Ability to positively lead by example and model all camp rules and ensure that staff and campers are as well
    • Abide by Personnel Policies & Procedures of the ULBGC Camp
    • Follow all State of Wisconsin, American Camp Association, and other certifying body guidelines
    • Attend staff training week before camp starts
    • Attend staff meetings before each session starts
    • Work with supervisors to plan professional skills to improve on while working at camp
    • Ensure that campers are always appropriately supervised in their activities and are always accounted for according to cabin lists and activity signups
    • Must be able to use hands and fingers to help facilitate programs
    • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, sit for long periods of time
    • Must have great communication skills, both verbal and written

    Cabin Counselor Specific Tasks

    • Live in cabins and ensure that campers are on schedule for meals, activities, and bed.
    • Model cleanliness with the campers; keep the cabin clean and the area around it tidy daily and ensure that exits are safe, paths are clear, and that the cabin looks welcoming and well organized
    • Ensure that campers are completing their activities of daily living such as showering, brushing their teeth, eating, drinking plenty of water, and more.
    • Ensure that all campers feel welcomed to participate in activities safely
    • Manage camper behaviors and give them the tools to be able to participate in camp safely while encouraging making friends and learning new physical, social, and emotional skills.
    • Complete paperwork such as incident reports, grant reporting, and more as assigned by camp leadership and the office manager
    • Report facility issues to the Property Manager in a timely manner
    • Complete other tasks as assigned
    • Some lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
    • Desire to work collaboratively on a team, with openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
    • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
