**Department Supervisor - Transportation Focus**

**Description**

Summary: - Responsible for the day-to-day inventory management, product delivery, and customer service functions of the Elk Grove Distribution Center (EGDC) Day/Night Shifts. - Perform a broad range of Logistics responsibilities. - Support the EGDC and branches with prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable assistance. - Work with EGDC and Branch Operations to continuously improve inbound outbound material flow. - Evaluate potential cost savings measures throughout Slakeys operation. - Responsible for ensuring a safe, effective operation for the EGDC. - Maintain a positive, helpful attitude toward fellow Team Members and customers. - Suggest and implement improvements in warehouse cost management, best practices, and operational process design and implementation. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Customer Service: a. Ensure all EGDC Team Members provide excellent customer service that fulfills Slakeys mission statement. b. Ensure that carriers maintain a high level of service to our branches to prevent service failures due to unnecessary delays by the freight companies. c. Supervise customer deliveries to ensure they are on time and error/damage free. d. Ensure all branch stock trucks are loaded error and damage free and released on time and continually seek feedback from the branches regarding the quality of the stock truck loads. e. All freight inquiries submitted by the branches are returned same day. f. Ensure excellent customer service is provided to other Slakey branches. 2. Freight Coordination: a. Manage turnaround freight to EGDC. b. Develop and maintain carrier relationships. c. Create and maintain carrier performance metrics. d. Analyze and audit paid freight data with Accounts Payable and any third parties (i.e. Bird Dog). e. Support EGDC and branch improvement teams regarding traffic and logistic needs. f. Act as a liaison between EGDC /Branch Operations Receiving and suppliers regarding packaging issues. g. Recommend process enhancements for transportation issues affecting sales initiatives. h. Support new business implementation as requested. i. Expedite supplier orders for purchasing as requested. 3. Warehouse Operations: a. Comply with Slakeys Standard Operating Procedures and maintain a safe work practices and security. All team members are properly trained in product and operating procedures. Warehouse is clean, neat, safe, and organized. Items are kept in their proper storage locations. All safety meetings are held on time and the team works in a safe manner. Ensure accurate bin locations. Team members follow the word and spirit of Slakey Brothers policies and SOPs. Equipment and vehicles are kept clean and properly maintained. Proper security is in place to prevent theft or damage to company property. Act as a working supervisor, completing general warehouse tasks as needed. b. Manage all warehouse daily operations. Ensure all Warehouse paperwork is completed properly. Ensure required Team Member timekeeping is done, including the approval of regular, overtime, vacation, sick, and other time off hours. c. Ensure all stock trucks are released on time to each branch. d. Manage OT to ensure it is less than 3% of total hours work for the fiscal year. e. Responsible for ensuring all departments are appropriately staffed. f. Other tasks and projects as assigned. 4. Warehouse Team Member Development: a. Recruit, hire, and train team members meeting company standards. Team is composed of 100% top notch people; those not meeting standards are promptly coached and/or disciplined as appropriate. b. Manage team member performance fairly and consistently. c. Ensure all team member performance reviews are conducted on schedule, with no late reviews. d. Proactively set goals and expectations for warehouse team members. e. Ensure cross training and career development tools for continuous learning are utilized throughout warehouse. f. Coach, counsel, and appropriately respond to team members on issues affecting job performance, company standards, and career development. g. Prepare required and appropriate documentation for team member personnel actions. h. Ensure team member compliance with company policies. **Education/Experience/Skills**

High school diploma or GED required.

4-year degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

5+ years related experience with Slakey Brothers or equivalent.

Understanding of warehouse and delivery functions.

Strong decision-making abilities.

Strong negotiation skills.

Experience with all modes of domestic transportation.

Knowledge of DOT regulations and hazmat requirements.

Demonstrated organizational skills, the ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Customer service oriented, responds to requests with the proper sense of urgency. (Internal/External)
