- Performs the full range of skilled general maintenance duties involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, roads/highways, drainage systems, grounds, trails and/or related systems; performs skilled duties in the area of assignment including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, masonry, and equipment operation.
- Performs any combination of Facility/Maintenance responsibilities to maintain and repair municipal property and equipment, city streets and sidewalks, and vehicles.
- Installs drywall, tile, pavers, doors, and windows. Assists with compliance with state and federal regulations applicable to the City's Public Works Dept including OSHA regulations.
- Operates various hand and power tools and shop equipment; operates equipment as assigned including bucket truck, front-end loaders, sweepers, backhoes, rollers, and dump trucks.
- Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisitions materials as required; monitors and maintains supply inventory.
- Performs field inspections; assesses necessary repair and maintenance work; performs safety and vandalism checks; and removes trash and debris.
- Maintains operation records and files reports as needed.
- Assists with administering public works contracts and evaluates performance of all contractors and vendors related to construction projects.
- Attends meetings as department liaison and provides reports on all Public Works construction project activities or programs as needed. Assists in developing and communicating any updates to division or department policies and procedures.
- Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; explains City policies and procedures to the general public as needed.
- Ensures the adherence to safe work practices and procedures and workplace safety; reviews completed work for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specification.
- Performs any other related job duties as assigned.
- Technical and functional knowledge of Public Works activities, equipment and practices.
- Ability to supervise including assigning and reviewing work, and problem resolution. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; interpret instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Ability to operate power tools, equipment and vehicles. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; Ability to learn the operation, policy and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office.
- Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office necessary to be effective.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) supplemented by four (4) years' related experience performing similar duties in construction and maintenance; previous supervisory, municipal or any acceptable related combination of training and experience.
- Possession of a valid Florida's License, CDL preferred.
- Construction related licenses/certifications preferred.
