Power Control Center Operator - Turlock

Job summary
Under general supervision monitor and operate the District's electrical grid as defined by North American Electrical Reliability Council (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) standards and procedures including the authority and responsibility to implement real-time actions that ensure the stable and reliable operation of the bulk electrical system.
Monitor and coordinate water flows power scheduling after hours customer assistance emergency response Monitor security fire alarms for the District's offices substations power plants.
Duties And Responsibilities Operate monitor electrical power transmission generation distribution systems through use of Energy Management System within established guidelines Maximize efficiency generating units supply necessary generation reserves monitoring responding changes natural gas flows Monitor coordinate all real time energy schedules changes use power scheduling tagging computer systems any necessary tagging approvals Operate monitor District's water distribution facilities operating power plants water diversion facilities canal systems proper water distribution canals rivers Dispatch on-call personnel service crews Respond initiate corrective action security fire alarms at District's facilities Prepare administer switching orders covering transmission distribution systems coordinate facilities outage requests Respond after hour customer inquires service requests Maintain required records log sheets Receive relay telephone messages involving District staff Follow guidelines perform duties outlined Maintenance Operations Department handbook Must work rotating shifts Perform related duties assigned supervisor Qualifications Any combination experience education provide required skills abilities qualifying Typical way obtain skills abilities education Experience Completion apprentice program recognized status Power Control Center Operator Skills Abilities Interpersonal Communication Ability communicate verbally writing variety individuals internal external customers handle issues diplomatic professional manner Technical Analytical Ability read interpret charts reports orders power schedules contracts deal variety problems occur electrical system make decisions timely Basic computer skills Exercise discretion independent judgment making decisions Administration Operations Maintain accurate records log sheets Necessary Special Requirements Possession current NERC certification continuing NERC WECC education maintain required certification File Statement Economic Interest compliance Governmental Code Section 81000 SELECTION CRITERIA Item Percentage Required Obtain Passing Score Oral Interview 70 Medical Examination This position may require medical examination determine medical fitness performing duties assigned position classification Turlock Irrigation District Equal Opportunity Employer does not discriminate basis race color ancestry religious creed national origin sex physical mental disability medical condition age marital status Assistance available filling out job applications disabled individuals Applicants subject drug testing accordance FHWA regulations requires Commercial Driver License Turlock Irrigation Distric
