    Purpose:
    Full time mental health services: Provides mental health counseling services in the School Wellness Center, including 1:1, group and family counseling as needed. Provides staff education. Provides co-teaching of social emotional Michigan Model for Health in key grades. The Mental Health Provider works with the SWP nursing and physician team in developing and managing treatment plans for child and adolescent patients of the SWP clinic. Serves as a liaison in relation to patient care and needs between the school, health center, and community to facilitate access to clinical treatment for individuals.

    Responsibilities for Mental Health Services:
    • Intensive Individual Treatment - Conducts clinical evaluations to determine appropriate treatment, individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
    • Develops individual treatment plans and reviews every 90 days and as needed.
      Early intervention - educational and support groups, parent consultation/education and crisis intervention.
    • Prevention - classroom presentations, prevention-focus groups and consultation/education with school staff and community partners.
    • Provide short- and long-term counseling that is goal-oriented to meet a specific need and to explore available options. This may include work with issues such as identity crisis, body image, depression, anxiety, and alcohol, drug, or other drugs. The counselor should be willing to involve the family, as necessary.
    • Responsible for the coordination of mental health services. Works closely with RN to develop a comprehensive plan to meet the adolescents' identified needs and to revise and drive the plan as needed to ensure optimal treatment benefit.
    • Provides support to obtain needed services and to negotiate and promote the adolescent's concerns with the health care team as well as the community.
    • Maintains pertinent and timely documentation of interventions, accurately maintains statistical data, collects, and maintains information for quality assurance indicators as required.
    • Utilizes a screening instrument for substance abuse/mental health problems.
    • Collects data on the characteristics of the students using the health center that are determined to need mental health or substance abuse treatment.
    • Attends staff meetings and case consults and provides mental health expertise as needed.
    • Provide on-site evaluation of students referred by other members of the health center.
    • Maintains patients' confidentiality.
    • Maintains a professional working relationship with patient's families, staff members, and medical providers.
    • Demonstrates adherence to all SWP policies.
    • Advocates for teens through verbal and non-verbal communication.
    • Serves on designated committees as requested.
    • Participates in school and community activities as appropriate through interactions with school personnel and SWP staff.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Essential Accountabilities:
    • Provides evidence-based care in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in children, adolescents, and young adults in the SWP setting.
    • Maintains regular contact with referral sources, courts, and family members to plan for treatment goals and after care.
    • Identifies services and care improvement ideas based on areas identified and acts on them to create excellent customer experiences.
    • Demonstrates, supports, and assumes personal accountability for consistently adhering to RASWC policies and procedures.
    • Independently uses and documents the therapeutic process to plan, deliver, and evaluate goal-focused, individualized, safe, age specific care for all patients including those with complex bio-psychosocial needs.
    • Ensures quality care and safety through compliance with the principles and values of Mental Health care and services.
    • Contributes to establishing, maintaining, and improving the workplace environment that encourages respectful interactions with colleagues, support of peers, and identification of issues that need to be addressed.
    • Participates in Professional Development and continuous learning.
    • Provides education for staff, colleagues, patients, and/or families. Provides and documents individualized patient and family education.
    • Maintains and demonstrates current clinical knowledge in mental health, attending mandatory in-services and complying with continuing education requirements set forth by the state licensing board.
    • Maintains knowledge and skills in appropriate technology.
      Represents RAS by promoting an atmosphere of care, concern, pride, and respect to internal and external customers.
    • Maintains awareness of personal actions and activities and the impact on the image of RASWC and behavioral health services.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
    Clinical Skills
    • Performs comprehensive/timely child/adolescent and family psychosocial assessment rendering and opinion/recommendation regarding the patient's mental status, competency, prospective danger to self and others, diagnosis, and need for treatment.
    • Ability to conduct and document crisis/emergency interventions.
    • Passion for working with adolescents ages 10-21 years old.
    • Qualified to receive third party insurance payments for mental health services (preferred)
    • Excellent communication and public relation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate management of patients in clinical setting.
    • Able to function independently and as a collaborator, flexibility.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific developmental factors necessary to provide clinical therapy.
    Documentation
    Provide documentation as defined by RASWC policies and procedures. Also as defined by HIPAA, MDHHS, MI Mental and Public Health Codes, and Best Practices. Develops specific and timely case closure/after care plans.

    Coordination of Care
    Works collaboratively with all staff to ensure seamless behavioral health care.
    Communicates findings and recommendations to identified providers to ensure continuity of care when appropriate. Participates in school's support team meetings (IEP, 504, etc.) for their clients.

    Communication/Collaborative Skills
    • Works in collaboration with SWP team members, school staff, internal and external partners, and community agencies to obtain needed services and resources, and for the development and implementation of prevention and intervention programs.
    • Serves as an advocate as appropriate for students and their families.
    Education
    • Graduated from an accredited university or college with a Master's Degree in an appropriate mental health discipline.
    • Licensed in the State of Michigan to practice as a social worker, psychologist, or counselor. (LMSW, LLP, LPC)
    Experience
    • A minimum of 3 years' experience providing individual, group and family therapy to children, adolescents and young adults and their families.
    • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team either in a school, outpatient behavioral health setting, or primary care integrated model with high-risk clients and their families.
    • The skill set to work independently, as well as part of a dynamic integrated team with excellent organization skills.
    • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities are necessary to formulate effective behavioral health care plans.
    • Ability to perform a wide variety of professional behavioral health services.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with students, families, school staff and outside agencies.
    Reports to Superintendent and Wellness Center Director
