New Life Center is currently looking for a Cook to assist with food preparation and service at its Emergency Shelter Program for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in the West Valley. This position may require weekend hours and is classified as full-time under FLSA. The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving attractive, nutritionally balanced meals for residents in New Life Center's Emergency Shelter program while upholding the mission, vision, and values of New Life Center. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production and portion control using standard recipes and for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements. In addition, the Cook will possess an Arizona Food Handlers Card, following all guidelines set forth by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This position also performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping, light mopping, and maintaining refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms in a neat and clean order. In the absence of the Kitchen Manager, this position may be responsible for food preparation and service.

***What You Will Do:***

Under direction of the Kitchen Manager, plans, prepares, and serves attractive and nutritionally balanced meals for up to 104 residents of New Life Center's Emergency Shelter program.

Performs weekly inventory of kitchen food and supplies. Keeps pantry, kitchen, and walk-in fully stocked and ensure proper storage of food supplies.

At the direction of the Kitchen Manager, accommodates cultural and medical dietary needs/restrictions for residents.

Be a passionate advocate for New Life Center's mission, vision, and core values of of compassion, resilience, equity, and community.

***OUALIFICATIONS:***

**REQUIRED**

High school diploma or equivalent with one year or more of commercial kitchen/cook experience. Bulk cooking experience a plus.

Valid Arizona driver's license and insurance, or state identification card, and access to reliable transportation.

Possession of a current Arizona Food Handlers Card. **

Currently possess or ability to successfully obtain Level 1 fingerprint clearance. **

CPR/1st Aid Certified. **

Negative TB test required. **

**If necessary, New Life Center will complete these areas of qualification during the onboarding process.

**PREFERRED**

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field.

1 or more years of kitchen/nutrition experience within a human services agency.
