    ROLE
    The Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing provides consultative and/or direct educational hearing services to deaf
    and hard-of-hearing students from birth to 21 years of age and related staff. (Note: Students must have a documented hearing
    loss before a referral is made to the Itinerant Teacher. The audiological must be current within one year.)
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Special Education, the Itinerant Teacher for the Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing performs the following
    duties:
    Provides direct and consultative services, including:
     Educational hearing testing
     Observations
     Development of IEP
     Ongoing in-service of school staff
     FM application system maintenance
     Periodic consultation with parents and staff
     Periodic consultation with interpreters
     Monitoring of student progress
     Contacting Frederick County Development Center (FCDC) to follow up on audiological evaluations and hearing aid checks.
     Auditory training
     Speech reading
     Language and vocabulary development
     Deaf awareness, including self advocacy
     Resource teaching in academic areas
     Collaborates with interpreters to implement students' programs.
    Other Essential Functions
     Attends school and county IEP meetings
     Maintains records on all students with hearing impairments
     Attends staff meetings
     Purchases, inventories, and performs minor maintenance on classroom FM amplification systems
     Orders and maintains inventory of Hearing Services' materials
     Plans cooperatively with other agencies
     Represents Hearing Services at the Maryland State Steering Committee for the Hearing Impaired
     Assists with developing and coordinating student's schedules with services
     Maintains records and files
    Performs other duties as assigned by the Central Coordinator of Special Education.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
     Bachelor's degree with MSDE certification in deaf education
     Proficient sign language skills
     Ability to understand and interpret evaluations in the area of audiology
     Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
     Regular and predictable attendance.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
     Experience in a variety of school settings
     Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
