    Position Summary Proposal Preparation Specialist I, you will assume the responsibility of overseeing all aspects of proposal preparation for the School of Natural Sciences.

    This includes supporting the entire proposal development process and providing administrative assistance for pre-award research administration.

    Reporting directly to the Director of Research Administration in the Wiess School of Natural Sciences, this role will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication and collaboration.

    The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently and demonstrate strong analytical skills, ensuring prompt and efficient responses to faculty and staff in their preparation and submission of grant proposals within strict deadlines.

    This position entails work on Rice University's campus, with the potential for some remote work/flexible work arrangements.

    Requirements Bachelor's Degree In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted.

    2 years of related experience Skills Initiative and ability to work independently and as a team member effective interpersonal skills, both written and verbal Administrative and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize one's own workload Strong critical thinking skills Strong writing and editing skillsEssential Functions Organizes, facilitates, and tracks proposal development efforts and proposal preparation timelines.

    Understands, explains, and clarifies various sponsors' proposal requirements and review processes Researches and writes non-technical sections of proposals Provides comments, suggestions, and questions on the narrative section Ensures compliance with sponsor requirements Develops a visually pleasing proposal and page design and formatting both text and graphics Serves as a liaison with faculty, administrators, and SPARC to ensure timely and successful proposal submissions Assisting in the facilitation of faculty teams and colleagues in preparing large, complex, collaborative, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional proposals Identifies limited submission funding opportunities, posts them to the limited submission website and listserv, and assists in coordinating limited submission competitions when necessary Assists with training and development sessions designed for faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate students, and/or undergraduate students on topics related to the development of proposals for external grant funds Assists in preparing ad hoc administrative projects, such as website materials, proposal archives, etc.

    Performs all other duties as assignedAdditional Functions Informs the principal investigator (PI) of all proposal preparation requirements and ensures guidelines are followed for proposal formatting, all documents required, and submission requirements.
