    FBUSD schools include Redwood Elementary School (grades PreK - 2), Dana Gray Elementary (grades - 5), Fort Bragg Middle School (grade - 8), Fort Bragg High School (grades and three alternative schools - Noyo High School (continuation), Lighthouse Community Day School (grades and Shelter Cove Community Day School (grades FBUSD is nestled on the rugged northern California coastline.

    Comprised of approximately 1700 students, FBUSD is the second largest school district in Mendocino County.

    With a wide array of athletic teams, a strong academic program, and an extensive range of extra-curricular options, FBUSD students continually have an impressive range of options after high school.

    Hello Coaches:
    You can apply in person (applications are available at school sites) or an EDJoin application. If you have prior coaching employment, you will submit a letter of interest to the school site sports secretary. Once hired, you will need to complete all requirements before coaching. Once you are selected for the position, new coaching employee packets will be given. All requirements must be completed prior to coaching. Coaching stipends are prorated and paid monthly. Anyone filling in for or assisting a coach must get TB and fingerprint clearance before working with children. Forms are available at the District Office. You can call to request the specific forms.

    Anyone working with students who do not possess a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate must always be in the presence of a certificated coach.

    All requirements must be met according to the California Interscholastic Federation CIF By-law. If transporting students, you must have an approved driver application on file. A Clear DMV report and specific insurance coverage requirements apply. Ask Site Secretaries for availability. All coaching positions run annually.     DEFINITION


    Assist each participating student achieve a high level of skill, and appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
    Under the supervision of the athletic director, principal or designee.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - May include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
    • Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
    • Works closely with the athletic director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
    • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
    • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
    • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
    • Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
    • Enforces discipline and sportsman like behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    • Care and prevention of athletic injuries
    • Basic first aid and emergency procedures
    • Coaching theory
    • Rules and regulations pertaining to the sport or game being coached, the league rules, and at the high school level, regulations of the Calif. Interscholastic Federation.
    • Child psychology, or at high school level coaching, adolescent psychology
    Experience and Training


    Example:
    Prior active involvement with youth in a school or community sports program.

    Special Requirements


    • Valid First Aid certificate
    • Valid CPR certificate
    • Strong commitment to working with adolescents and parents
    • Completion of a college level course, workshop, or seminar that includes instruction on substance abuse prevention and the physical and psychological effects of steroid and human growth hormones.
    Physical Requirements


    • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
    • Seeing to read and prepare documents and perform assigned duties.
    • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers as required by sport of assignment.
    • Ability to exert 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    • Ability to stoop, climb, stand for long periods of time and perform physical labor, physical mobility and stamina to participate in activities which may be strenuous.

    Employee and volunteer requirements must be met before working with students (Fingerprint clearance, TB Test/Assessment Clearance, CPR/First Aid Certification, NFHS Fundamentals, Concussion, and Keenan mandatory online classes, etc.).

    Paychecks will not be authorized until all requirements have been met.

    In addition, anyone who does not have a CPR/First Aid Certificate must always be in the presence of a certified coach.

    CODE OF ETHICS §5595 Recertification of Temporary Athletic Team Coaches - Once a district has determined that a coach meets the provisions of Section 5593, the district may recertify the coach.

    §5596 Code of Ethical Conduct - Each school district shall, no later than 90 days subsequent to the filing of this chapter with the Secretary of State, implement the following listed standards of ethical conduct for each temporary, probationary, or permanent employee of a school district providing supervisory and instructional services in interscholastic athletic programs and activities.

    Any specified person providing such services to the district shall:

    a. Show respect for players, officials, and other coaches. b. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. c. Establish and model fair play, sportsmanship, and proper conduct. d. Establish player safety and welfare as the highest priority. e. Provide proper supervision of students at all times. f. Use discretion when providing constructive criticism and when reprimanding players. g.

    Maintain consistency in requiring all players to adhere to the established rules and standards of the game to be played.

    h. Properly instruct players in the safe use of equipment. i.

    Avoid exerting undue influence on a pupil's decision to enroll in an athletic program at any public or private post-secondary educational institution.

    j.

    Avoid exerting undue influence on pupils to take the lighter academic course(s) in order to be eligible to participate in athletics.

    k.

    Avoid suggesting, providing, o encouraging any athlete to use nonprescription drugs, anabolic steroids, or any substance to increase physical development or performance that is not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, Surgeon General of the United States, or American Medical Association.

    I. Avoid recruitment of athletes from other schools. m.

    Follow the rules of behavior and the procedures for crowd control as established by the local board of education and the league in which the district participates.
