    Job Summary



    This position will help with ancillary clinic-related and patient care-related duties so that doctors can work more productively. The goal for this type of position is to help us run and document our clinic more efficiently and effectively by:

    1. Performing ophthalmic imaging and testing including but not limited to optical coherence tomography (OCT), wide-field fundus photos, fluorescein angiography, slit-lamp photography, visual field testing, and topography.
    2. Preparing and assisting with in-office procedures including but not limited to corneal scraping, punctal cautery, tarsorrhaphy, and conjunctival biopsies.
    3. Checking visual acuity, eye pressure, pupils, confrontation visual fields, and extraocular movements.
    4. Scribing for attending doctor and reviewing finalized treatment plan with the patient.
    5. Ordering and stocking clinic supplies.
    6. Assisting with patient phone calls, refill authorization, and insurance denial appeals.
    7. Assisting with data collection for clinical trials.

    The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

    Department Description



    The F.I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology at UCSF is committed to engaging in research activities and providing state-of-art patient care that address infectious and inflammatory disease that cause blindness. The mission is the prevention of blindness worldwide through research and teaching focused on infectious and inflammatory eye disease.



    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and critical thinking. Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate clinic content, rules and regulations.
    • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others.
    • Productive in work volume, speed, quality and consistency. Ability to see projects through to completion on deadline. Excellent interpersonal judgment and discretion. Ability to work well as part of an administrative team with a customer service orientation towards co-workers, faculty and researchers.
    • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite. Skills in data management. Effectively uses relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation.
    • Thorough knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of medical billing practices including coding, billing systems and documentation requirements. Knowledge of ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes. Thorough understanding of medical terminology and specialized clinical knowledge of clinic practice area.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proven ability to apply knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments to assess and monitor clinic operations.
    • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in ambulatory care clinics.
