Description
This is an on-call, sworn deputy position responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of federal, state, and county laws and ordinances. Reserve Deputies are relied upon to supplement our full-time staff at various community events, courthouse security, inmate medical transports, inmate transport, recreation patrol, patrol county parks, special events, and to assist with patrol duties.
Graduates or current students in the LE Academy are encouraged to apply.

Examples of Duties
Reserve Deputies will be expected to execute the following duties, as well as any additional duties assigned by the program administrator or shift supervisor, as needed:

Essential Qualifications
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be enrolled in a criminal justice-related degree program or have attained sixty (60) fully accredited college-level credits. Must be 18 years of age, or older, United States citizen, and resident of the State of Wisconsin for one year, be of good reputation, with no felony convictions, be in good health, pass a physical agility test, and pass a pre-employment background investigation and pre-employment drug screening. A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required. Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions, make quick decisions, and process information based upon limited information. Must be able to assume responsibility and function calmly in emergency situations. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. Must have the ability to read and comprehend what has been read, and write legibly; adding and subtracting are necessary for preparing reports, citations, statutes, interpreting maps and is essential to satisfactorily functioning in this role. Must be certified or certifiable, or capable of becoming certifiable within one (1) year year of the date of hire. (Training qualification requirements may be altered, as long as a specific plan exists to comply with the requirements set forth by the Wisconsin Training and Standards Bureau).

Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules, regulations, and policies. Some initiative and independent judgment is exercised in performing work assignments, although unusual problems may be referred to a supervisor for advice on procedural or policy matters. Employees must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
Reserve Deputies are sworn, part-time, non-allocated positions assigned to the Patrol Division of the Sheriff's Office. Reserve Deputies are certified law enforcement officers as determined by the Wisconsin Training and Standards Bureau. Officers are authorized to carry a firearm upon successful firearms qualifications and approval by the Sheriff or his/her designee.
