    JOB SUMMARY:
    Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Art Historian position in the Visual Art Department. The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher of undergraduate students with a dedicated research agenda. Candidates will be expected to teach courses from surveys to advanced topics. This is a 9-month position with a 4/4 teaching load. Priority will be given to those with expertise in African American or African Diasporic Art History. The successful candidate must possess a PhD by the time of hire.

    The Visual Art Department recently moved into a new building, Amos Hall, which will house an extensive collection of African Art and Material Culture. The candidate for this position will be expected to integrate this collection into courses and support students in developing a hands-on relationship with historical materials and museum practices. Lincoln also maintains a historic relationship with the Barnes Foundation, a partnership combining the resources of both institutions to promote education and appreciation of the fine arts. The department is looking for a driven educator to continue this relationship and build new relationships with other regional institutions through class visits, public programming, and internships.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy in Art History

    • Develop relationships with regional art institutions

    • Take the lead in developing the writing proficiency of Visual Arts majors

    • Foster professional development opportunities at museums and cultural organizations

    • Maintain active professional engagement and research

    • Actively engage in the assessment of Visual Art Student Learning Outcomes

    • Contribute to department and university initiatives, advise students and recruit students to the Visual Arts program

    EDUCATION :

    • PhD in Art History, preferably with a focus on African American/African Diaspora Art, completed by the time of hire

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Evidence of 3+ years of teaching at undergraduate level

    • Proven agenda of research and professional engagement

    • Communication skills consistent with effective teaching, mentoring and motivating Visual Arts majors from a broad range of cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds

    • Experience in course design and development

    • Experience developing a visiting scholar lecture series

    • Experience utilizing LMS such as canvas and other software

    • Experience in assessment of curriculum and student learning outcomes

    • Experience with department and university committee engagement

    • Proven experience in integrating art and material culture collections into educational programs and initiatives
