    Within UAA, the Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards (OMSFA), housed in the Center for Experiential Learning and Diversity (EXPD), assists University of Washington undergraduates in developing the skills and personal insights necessary to pursue scholarships appropriate to their goals. Our office:

    • Provides information and resources to increase student awareness of the scholarship search and application process via workshops, events, online resources, and individual advising.
    • Mentors students through an intense process by offering resources, advising, and individual feedback which result in competitive applications for local, national and international scholarships.
    • Collaborates with faculty and staff to identify and support potential student scholars.Examples of scholarship programs OMSFA manages or works closely with include the Fulbright US Student Program, Gilman Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships, Rhodes Scholarships, Truman Scholarships, UW's Mary Gates Endowment for Students, Martin Family Foundation Scholarships, and Bonderman Travel Fellowships.OMSFA values an inclusive scholarship community fostered through information sharing, transparent processes, and diverse participation. OMSFA has an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic, collaborative, student-centered individual to join our team as a Coordinator & Advisor (Counseling Services Coordinator (NE S 6)) . The OMSFA Coordinator & Advisor advances the work of our small but dedicated scholarship advising team through coordinating and managing communication and outreach efforts, supporting administrative elements of scholarship application and selection processes, as well as engaging in scholarship advising with undergraduate students. The Coordinator & Advisor provides valuable feedback to the team about ways to promote equity and inclusion in our work and how to improve services to and resources for undergraduate students and alumni, faculty and staff.The Coordinator & Advisor manages OMSFA websites, social media, email, outreach materials, and other communication tools to connect with undergraduate students, faculty and staff across campus; helps to plan and facilitate events and coordinates other OMSFA resources to maximize undergraduate students' awareness and engagement with UW, local, national and international scholarship opportunities. The Coordinator & Advisor advises undergraduate students across all fields of study who are new to the scholarship search and application landscape, providing support in finding and developing strong written application materials for scholarship or admission applications.The OMSFA Coordinator & Advisor will also take an active role in supporting two specific scholarship programs: Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship and Bonderman Travel Fellowship. For the Gilman Scholarship, the Coordinator & Advisor will serve as the primary advising contact for undergraduate students, offering application support and feedback to assist students in developing competitive applications for this national scholarship, and coordinating Gilman alumni engagement. This will involve collaborating with the OMSFA team, UW Study Abroad, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, Office of Student Financial Aid and others. The Coordinator & Advisor will also provide administrative support for the undergraduate Bonderman Travel Fellowship including email management, advertising, website maintenance, application review and interview processes and communication, Fellow tracking and communication during their travels, Fellow and alumni communications and events. This will involve close collaboration with OMSFA, Graduate School, UW Study Abroad and Office of Global Affairs colleagues. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Coordination and Management (60%)
    • Assist in the coordination and execution of OMSFA programming, workshops and events.
    • Support national, international, and internal UW scholarship application and nomination processes for undergraduate students and alumni, including advertising, soliciting and coordinating faculty, staff and alumni review committee and interview volunteers. Occasionally serve on review/interview committees for scholarships.
    • Engage in outreach on behalf of OMSFA, create OMSFA outreach materials, represent OMSFA at campus events.
    • Provide critical insight into strategies for intentionally incorporating DEI values into OMSFA programming and processes.
    • Assist in the maintenance of scholarship databases and applications.
    • Manage regular website updates, social media and listserv emails.
    • Assist with office administration, including scheduling meetings, tracking calendars, planning events, etc.
    • Support data collection, management and evaluation to inform our work.
    • Support the Bonderman Fellowship program with email management, advertising, outreach, website and application maintenance, record keeping and data management, traveling fellow and alumni communication and contacts, selection committee communication, scheduling, events, etc.
    • Contribute to the functioning of the Center for Experiential Learning and Diversity (EXPD) and Undergraduate Academic Affairs through active collaboration, UAA and campus service, and participation in events.Advising (40%)
    • Serve as the primary advisor for students seeking general scholarship information through one-on-one appointments and group sessions/events.
    • Facilitate workshops, information sessions and other events to assist undergraduate students in developing skills and tools relevant to undergraduate scholarships and fellowships.
    • Serve as the primary scholarship advisor and contact for the Gilman Scholarship, conducting outreach, hosting events and one-on-one advising to support students in applying, and coordinating with Gilman alumni to engage with future applicants. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor's degree in any academic field.
    • Two years of experience in student support services, advising or program support.
    • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and public speaking experience.
    • Strong problem-solving, management, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to take initiative and to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Enjoy working with students and possess strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively across diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences.
    • Team-oriented, collaborative approach and a desire to interact with colleagues across departmental units.
    • Well-organized, efficient, works well under deadlines, and is attentive to details.
    • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, social media, data management, and with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • One year of experience in program coordination or management.
    • Experience in international education, experiential learning or a related field.
