Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition .
The Division Director will lead the faculty in all clinical and academic mission areas, including clinical service, education of trainees at all levels, research program development, and administrative activities of all divisional programs.
General responsibilities include coordinating and enhancing all clinical, academic and research activities of the Division.The Director will also be primarily responsible for creating and implementing the vision and goals for the Division, in alignment with the broader strategic plans for the Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children's.
Academic responsibilities include overseeing all divisional faculty, advancing their careers by providing professional and personal development opportunities, overseeing high-quality innovative training, supporting research activities for the division, and modeling a culture of inquiry to ensure active engagement in quality improvement, scholarly excellence, and innovation in all missions.
Administrative responsibilities include creating an environment of excellence that supports positive patient outcomes. Applicants with an active research program and a track record of innovation in clinical practice are preferred.The ideal candidate is an established academic pediatric gastroenterologist with strong leadership skills and a demonstrated commitment to our ASPIRE values.
The Division Director will be expected to actively participate in clinical service and role model patient- and family-centered clinical excellence.
Together with outstanding colleagues in Pediatric Surgery, the Division serves as the top-ranked Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery program in Virginia.
Among our 10 faculty (5 assistant professors, 3 associate professors, 2 full professors) are national experts in inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, eosinophilic GI disorders, disorders of gut-brain interaction, nutrition, gut microbiome, data science, quality improvement, and medical education.
They provide a full array of pediatric gastroenterology subspecialty care, including comprehensive inpatient care, 7,000 outpatient visits, and 1,500 procedures annually for patients from Virginia and beyond.
The Division's clinical mission is supported by 3 nurse practitioners, 2 psychologists, 3 dietitians, 5 nurse care coordinators, physical and occupational therapy, and 2 social workers.
The Division maintains a vibrant ACGME-accredited fellowship program, with three fellows in training (one per year) and a robust number of applicants annually.
The Division enjoys highly collaborative relationships with colleagues in Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Transplant Surgery (both at UVA and the University of Pittsburgh), adult Gastroenterology at UVA as well as pediatric gastroenterology practices throughout Virginia.
The Division's research portfolio includes several NIH R01s, major foundation grants, and generous philanthropy. Quality improvement efforts span inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplant, and mental health in children with chronic illnesses.
