    PH Disease Intervention Specialist - Greenville, United States - State of North Carolina

    Position is with the Communicable Disease Branch and based in our Raleigh Regional Field Services Office in Wake County. The incumbent in this position will have multi-county responsibilities which include:

    • Performing work efforts to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV infection.
    • Conducting personal interviews to obtain case related information.
    • Explaining the disease process, treatment, prevention, and legal requirements, analyzes epidemiological information to determine need and priority for follow-up activities.
    • Providing education, consultation, and technical assistance to local health departments and private providers on interview techniques, records, treatment procedures, and quality control.
    • Performing phlebotomy procedures on suspected cases.
    • Use of their personal vehicle is required to travel.
    • Establishing rapport and effective communications with clients and stakeholders from diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, and lived experiences.

    Incumbent may be eligible for an in-range-adjustment after successful completion of the required training program and is successfully able to work independently. The training timeframe is approximately 6-9 months. *This in-range-adjustment is subject to funding availability.

    About the Division of Public Health and the Communicable Disease Branch

    The NC Division of Public Health (DPH) works to promote and contribute to the highest possible level of health for the people of North Carolina - Everywhere, Everyday, Everybody.

    The Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health primarily deals with infectious diseases that are reportable by law to the state health department, as well as a few other communicable diseases of public health significance, such as influenza, norovirus infection and certain healthcare-associated infections.To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form. Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively use computers and software (e.g. Microsoft Offices).
    • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated legible handwriting.
    • Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and through written documents
    • Must have a valid Driver's License

    Management Preferences

    • Experience in interviewing or working with individuals with communicable diseases, such as sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.
    • Hiring manager prefers bilingual (e.g., fluency in Spanish).
    • Experience and efficiency entering data entry into large database systems.
    • Experience with community engagement, including work with faith-based organizations.
    • Experience providing health related services, including the provision of health education or testing results.

    Physical Requirements

    Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution;

    OR
