    Demonstrated proficiency in the following Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA) core competencies: governance, student safety, and operating strategically.


    Job Description:


    The O ffice of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for a Wellness and Risk Prevention Assistant Director, which will be classified as a Student Services Specialist II.

    The mission of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement at Iowa State University is to create opportunities to enhance the academic success, personal development, and well-being of college students within the sorority and fraternity community.

    The Wellness and Risk Prevention Assistant Director will be responsible for event registration management and programming/outreach activities


    These duties include:

    • Managing social event registration process for chapters submitting events.
    • Coaching student leaders through the event management process.
    • Reviewing, revising, and developing improvements to the social event registration process.
    • Developing and facilitating programming in support of key prevention initiatives such as hazing prevention week, mental health month, and sexual assault awareness month.
    • Coordinating the risk prevention team with student leaders.
    • Managing required prevention programming for the sorority and fraternity community.
    • Implementing programs and activities that support the needs of sorority and fraternity community members.
    This individual will be responsible for other duties such as:


    • Developing programs, workshops and facilitator guides for staff and student leaders to further educate the community on prevention and wellness.
    • Exploring new initiatives and resources for solving complex prevention problems.
    • Initiating a prevention model for chapter and council success.
    • Implementing data-informed improvements efforts to increase risk prevention and wellness among sorority and fraternity members.
    • Consulting and collaborating with other areas such as Student Wellness, Counseling Services, Recreation Services, Student Conduct, and Student Assistance for programming.
    • Collaborating with governing councils to provide annual training and expectations.
    • Developing relationships with (inter)national staff/regional leadership to better support chapters.
    • Coaching chapter leaders through problem solving and change initiatives as a chapter liaison.
    • Assisting in the preparation and management of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement budget.
    • Submitting reports regularly including but not limited to: liaison reports, monthly reports, monthly newsletters, staff meeting agenda items, scorecard and annual report initiatives.
    • Serving on various department, division and university committees as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
    Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

    Level Guidelines- Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals- Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues- Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems- Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests- May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff- May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity- Provides guidance to students
