- Assists clinical team members and department or unit management in determining methods and procedures for new tasks.
- Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history, obtains patient food preferences, assesses patients, and documents in patients' medical record.
- Guides and conducts assessments of documents in patients' medical records, according to hospital policies and procedures, and recommends nutrition care plans to medical staff for review and consideration.
- Recommends and communicates therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to physicians for patients, and ensures accuracy of diet order received by checking against physician's order.
- Provides nutritional guidance, education and counseling to patients and their families in accordance with the prescribed diet. Calculates nutrient content of tube feeding and dietary intakes as ordered by physicians.
- Contributes to changes to the patient's menu/nutritional analysis, including patient food preferences, the development of standardized recipes.
- Prepares, presents, and conducts individual and group education classes, and refers clients to community services, as needed. Participates in and promotes Northwell wellness initiatives.
- Develops and utilizes effective lines of communication regarding nutrition information within the program and community.
- Guides and provides in-services to culinary, food service and interdisciplinary teams regarding therapeutic diets and related topics.
- Participates in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement related tasks including data collection and executes tasks related to it, as directed.
- Assists and participates with regulatory compliance.

- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience, required.
- Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commissions on Dietetic Registration, required.
- Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN), as needed.
- Advanced/specialized certifications, as needed.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
