    Job Description:

    SUMMARY

    To provide an opportunity for Practicum Students to apply and enhance, in a real-world setting, what they have learned in their academic classes in order to foster professional growth and development. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies, and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    The Practicum Student(s) will be required to:

    To learn and adhere to the following areas of the agency:
    • Mission, Vision, Values, Programs, and Communities served
    • General policies and procedures
    • Safety policies and procedures
    • Documentation requirements
    • Legal and ethical issues
    • Agency's Human Resources Requirements
    • Meet for a minimum of one hour per week to review work performed with assigned Field Instructor
    • Demonstrate professional behavior in the agency at all times
    • Participate in staff, committee, and seminar meetings when appropriate
    • Complete all requirements set forth by student's school and agency
    MARGINAL DUTIES

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

    The incumbent is responsible for managing their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by their supervisor(s). If at any time the incumbent is unsure of their role or specific responsibilities, it is the incumbent's responsibility to refer to their job description and ask for clarification from their supervisor(s). Their supervisor(s) will work with the incumbent, as needed, to ensure performance expectations are clearly communicated and performance goals are achieved.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Master Level Practicum students with a focus in one of the following areas:
    • Social and/or Behavioral Sciences
    • Criminal Justice
    • Social Work
    • Human Services
    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

    None

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
