    Primary Purpose:

    Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative

    requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or GED

    Valid Texas educational aide certificate

    Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or

    Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree or

    Have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment-

    -knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or

    -knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness; and mathematics readiness, as appropriate

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Ability to work well with children

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Experience:

    Some experience working with children

    Supervision/Monitor Responsibilities:

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional Support

    1. Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
    2. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
    3. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
    4. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
    5. Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
    6. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
    7. Set up audio-visual equipment.

    1. Keeps and maintains a folder for each student if required by immediate supervisor.
    2. Keeps attendance records.
    3. Types and duplicates of materials.
    QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Aide

    1. Distributes books and supplies to students.
    2. Delivers reports and materials to the office or other personnel.
    Student Management

    1. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, work with individual students or small groups.
    2. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty
    3. Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
    4. Has the ability to recognize individual differences.
    Other

    1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
    2. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
    3. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
