    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

    The work involves performing various clerical duties in the Regional Center of Excellence for Transplantation and Renal Care at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC).

    The incumbent provides support to administrators and other staff in the processing of patients seeking and/or receiving organ transplants and related procedures.

    Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher-level professional or paraprofessional employee with some leeway for exercising independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work according to established regulations and procedures.

    Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.


    TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
    Performs clerical functions including, but not limited to typing, word processing, filing, inputting data and running various reports, scheduling patient appointments, maintaining daily activity calendars, and verifying billing slips and medical records;

    Composes routine letters and correspondence;

    Compiles statistics of departmental activities;

    Assists in departmental activities and supply requisitioning;

    Assists in compiling medical records from various sources to evaluate patients for transplant services;

    Verifies all regulatory requirements are met in patient's transplant record;

    Initiates new patient intake process and creation of medical record;

    Performs limited work related to patient health insurance eligibility, specifically: obtaining patient demographic and insurance information, obtaining and verifying authorization for approval of procedures, making corrections to errors necessary for processing of authorization requests, and inputting such information into an electronic and/or paper database and/or registry;

    Maintains minutes for committee meetings.

    Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, equipment and electronic applications utilized at ECMCC; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; good knowledge of processes utilized in processing patients seeking and receiving organ transplants and related treatments; working knowledge of medical terminology; working knowledge of transplant procedures; working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and accreditation standards related to organ transplantation and related procedures; ability to maintain records; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications; sound professional judgment; confidentiality; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.



    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    A.)
    Possession of 30 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university and one (1) year of clerical experience in a healthcare setting, OR:

    B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience in a healthcare setting.


    NOTE 1:

    Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree may be substituted for the required qualifying experience.


    NOTE:
    Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
