Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (
DAR) Division is seeking a Director, Alumni Relations.
DAR
is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and other friends.
This position has responsibility for the planning and management of alumni relations programs/functions for a school or within the central division.
This position plans and manages alumni communications, oversees budget management, and manages staff, including project and volunteer management and oversight.
This position will represent the university and will play a critical role in connecting alumni to the university.This role develops strategic partnerships and collaborative relationships with colleagues and volunteers in support of alumni engagement initiatives, builds relationships with alumni through programs and events, and educates alumni about gift options and benefits.
This position works towards building and maintaining a strong and connected alumni community and cultivates relationships with the alumni association's Board of Directors.
This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.
Along with the Executive Director of Alumni Engagement, this position creates and implements a comprehensive engagement strategy for regional, shared identity and interest, and young alumni.
This includes the creation and management of metrics designed to demonstrate success in volunteer management, programs and events, and philanthropy.
This role collaborates with colleagues across the university in the Schools, Athletics, Enrollment, Office of Diversity, Equity & Community Engagement, Center for Career Services, and others to create a comprehensive engagement plan that is representative of all alumni.
This position manages approximately six top-tier domestic and international alumni networks, which includes goal-setting around outreach, events, and philanthropy, and it manages a small portfolio of leadership volunteers; responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of their annual gifts and moves them along the major gift pipeline when applicable.
Performs other related duties as assigned.The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience.

Professional experience in a higher education setting, including experience in advancement, volunteer management, human resources development, or a related field such as communications, marketing, or public relations preferred.
Established flexibility and initiative; the ability to work independently, as well as thrive in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
Experience with strategic planning, project management, and interoffice collaboration is a plus.Demonstrated strong writing, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international networks about 25% of the time.
Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend events as needed.
