Job Description

Pharmacist must exercise sound professional judgements and initiative consistent with knowledge of clinical medication use and knowledge of the patient. Checks and verifies orders and nurses requests for medications; supervises the work of pharmacy assistant; responsible for the medication safety of the patients and the general safety of the personnel in the pharmacy department . Work involves the control of expensive medications, supplies and equipment.

Duties and responsibilities, under supervision of Pharmacist

• Responsible for the safe and efficient administration of medication distribution
• Provides clinical drug information as needed for physicians, nurses, and patients
• Interprets physician medication orders and treatment orders from a direct copy of the order
• May schedule administration of medication for optional effect if not specified by physician
• Maintains patient record system to monitor patient medication therapy for safety and efficiency
• Supervises work of pharmacy technicians and assistants
• Compounds prescriptions and intravenous admixtures
• Dispenses prescriptions using accepted pharmaceutical techniques
• Control of floor stock inventories/supplies and monthly inspections
• Preparation of patient charge documents
• Verifies physician drug orders and nurses request for medications
• Performs other duties as requested
