Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the laboratory director and in collaboration with the chief of pathology, responsible for overseeing the daily operations and activities of the histology, surgical pathology, and cytology staff. Acting as a supervising technician, performs various procedures within the section.

Ensures adherence to laboratory policies, standards, and procedures.
Coordinates staff schedules and work assignments within the histology section to ensure equitable distribution of workload and skill maintenance.
Oversees training for all section employees on new equipment and procedures.
Ensures the technical staff conduct tasks such as microtomy, routine staining, cover slipping, and slide cleaning in line with established criteria.
Ensures special staining procedures are carried out according to protocol.
Manages regular maintenance of instruments and equipment on a daily, weekly, monthly, and as-needed basis.
Supervises troubleshooting activities and determines the need for external service for instruments and equipment as required.
Ensures compliance with established quality control procedures.
Maintains accurate record-keeping.

Requirements

Minimum Education
X Associate's degree X Preferred
X Equivalent educational/technical training and technical experience as a histology technician X Preferred
Requisite Skills
Demands critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision. Must thrive in a challenging environment and take appropriate actions when necessary.
Licenses:
HT(ASCP), HT(NCA), or equivalent certification meeting CMS and GDHR specifications.
Minimum Experience
A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a histology technician is preferred.
