    Responsibilities

    Job Summary

    Responsible for coordinating and providing individualized case management, group therapy and bio-psychosocial assessment services including group and counseling for clients within the facility. The Counselor-intern will demonstrate expertise in case management, development of client resources, vocational counseling, discharge/continuing care planning, and placement of clients. The Counselor-Intern has the primary responsibility of maintaining communication with the referral source and other service providers as needed, as well as act as a liaison with the UR Department on all aspects of client care. In conjunction with working towards CADC certification Counselor-intern is required to attend weekly 1:1 supervision. American Addiction Centers strives to ensure that all of our clients receive the most comprehensive care to address the issues that may impede their recovery.

  • Studying for Drug & Alcohol counseling certification from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years' experience working in a substance abuse environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people and aid them in adjusting to their specific problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, family members, and other members of staff.
  • Knowledge and experiences in running groups, meetings and/or activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays and have flexible hours
