    Title Staff Psychiatrist Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington IU Health Center Location Bloomington Position Summary The Indiana University Student Health Center Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has an opening for a full-time, all-year staff psychiatrist.

    The work is 100% outpatient, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, with no afterhours or weekend call.

    Duties include assessing eligible students who have been referred by CAPS counselors to determine the need for medication or other testing, and to help with dispositional planning or referral to other providers or higher levels of care, as needed.

    This may include assisting the counselors in evaluating students in crisis and with voluntary or involuntary hospitalizations. The psychiatrist consults with the CAPS director and other IU Student Health Center medical providers, as needed. The psychiatrist participates in clinical staff and administrative meetings and additional committees as needed.

    They also participate in seminars for CAPS mental health professional trainees and may have the occasional opportunity to provide direct supervision to psychiatric residents.

    The students served by CAPS are enrolled at IUB, are adolescents and adults from all over the world who bring with them a range of psychological challenges that span the diagnostic spectrum and an amazingly rich array of identities, including race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, sex, culture, sexuality, physical ability and socioeconomic status that makes for fulfilling work.

    Furthermore, we have a dedicated and diverse clinical staff, representing a range of theoretical orientations, who pride themselves on understanding the human experience and providing multiculturally-competent and informed care, which serves as a cornerstone of our training program.

    Clinical Experience 85% Direct clinical service delivery Administrative 10% The psychiatrist is expected to attend weekly staff meetings, complete paperwork and clinical notes in a timely manner, return phone calls and attend clinical team meetings.

    Training 5% Provides consultation and presentations to interns in Health Service Psychology, doctoral and masters'-level practicum students, and resident physician when present.

    The expected start date is May 1, 2024 but is negotiable. This is a limited-term, 12-month faculty appointment, with intention to renew at the end of the term.

    Minimum Qualifications Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine, completed Psychiatric Residency, and Board Certified or eligibility for certification in Psychiatry.
