    The Procurement Specialist is responsible for the procurement and purchasing activities for the Company, specifically; receiving and processing order requisitions for a wide variety of materials and supplies, obtaining quotes and shopping for the best price, placing orders with vendors, and coordinating pick-ups and deliveries to support various remote construction projects and company operations.

    This position works primarily in the office, but also occasionally performs general laborer work outdoors and drives a company vehicle to support department needs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The Procurement Specialist is responsible for the procurement and purchasing activities for the Company, specifically; receiving and processing order requisitions for a wide variety of materials and supplies, obtaining quotes and shopping for the best price, placing orders with vendors, and coordinating pick-ups and deliveries to support various remote construction projects and company operations.

    This position works primarily in the office, but also occasionally performs general laborer work outdoors and drives a company vehicle to support department needs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Receive and process order Requisition Forms for operations and construction projects in a timely manner.
    Frequently check e-mail and department fax machine for requisitions.
    Respond quickly to phone calls and voicemails.
    Obtain order approval as outlined in the Companys Procurement Standard Operating Procedure.
    Issue Purchase Orders per vendor to complete order requests in full.
    Place orders with vendors, ensuring accurate pricing and lead times on all goods ordered.
    Work directly with Foremen, Project Managers, field personnel and vendors to ensure order accuracy.
    Work directly with Equipment Manager in ordering parts and equipment.
    Use the internet and other available resources to research parts, materials, and supplies.
    Negotiate with different vendors regarding price, quality, timeliness, and other factors.
    Expedite and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery and pick up of goods.
    Track orders and follow up as needed to confirm delivery.
    Reconcile vendor Pick Tickets to associated Purchase Orders.
    Reconcile packing lists to purchase orders for freight sent directly to Seattle ports.

    Reconcile Requisition forms to orders received from vendors and provide timely order status updates to order requestor and involved parties.

    Track back ordered items and provide timely order status updates to order requestor and involved parties.
    Plan and map out order pickups and deliveries.
    Package, label, and load goods for shipment.
    Obtain quotes from vendors to support company and project operations and bid efforts.
    Work directly with project management support staff in getting project take-offs quoted and purchased.
    Turn Purchase Orders and associated backup to the Accounting Department in a timely manner.
    Work closely with accounting staff to resolve questions and issues.

    Drive a Company vehicle, ranging from a regular pickup, van or flatbed truck up to 1.5 tons with large loads.

    Pick up and deliver orders and materials from vendors, freight companies, etc.
    Make supply and grocery order runs, including shopping, loading, and packing for shipment.
    Act as company courier to deliver and pick up office communications and documents.
    Drive a planned route, specific to the days orders and requirements as needed.
    Drop off recyclable materials to the local collection site as needed.
    Establish and maintain positive and professional long-term relationships with vendors.

    Provide administrative support to the Procurement & Logistics Department, including:
    Answer multiline phone system and route calls.
    Maintain paper and electronic files.
    Operate office equipment such as a computer, fax machine, copier, and scanner.
    Assist with inventory, organization, and storage in the company yards.
    Work as a team-player with co-workers and business associates in a respectful and supportive manner.

    Responsible to report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the companys ability to operate safely, ethically, and profitably to company management or designated safety personnel.

    Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
    Attend and actively participate in meetings.
    Seek and participate in development and training opportunities.
    Other duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
    This position has no supervisory responsibilities

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
    Strong knowledge of procurement practices, rules, and regulations.
    Advanced knowledge of standard ordering processes.
    Intermediate knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and terminology.
    Intermediate knowledge of major construction vendors relevant to Alaska.
    Basic knowledge of standard hazardous material transportation and handling protocols.
    Basic knowledge of remote Alaska logistics and associated freight companies.
    Knowledge of Anchorage area with ability to navigate the road system.
    Knowledge and ability to follow all state and local driving laws.
    Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
    Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.
    Ability to conduct business ethically and professionally and represent the Company in a positive manner.
    Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work without direct supervision and productively manage time.
    Strong computer skills, particularly a firm working knowledge of the internet and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
    Strong organizational skills; able to multi-task, organize resources, establish priorities, meet deadlines and follow up on pending items.
    Excellent record keeping skills, including creating and maintaining written documentation and managing paper and electronic files.
    Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and staff.
    Ability to exercise a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
    Ability to accurately process, reconcile and track orders.
    Ability to compare data, determine differences, and make sound decisions based on factual data.
    Ability to use the internet to research parts, materials, and suppliers.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Two years of procurement and/or purchasing experience in the construction industry.
    Experience in Alaskas construction industry preferred.
    High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

    Work related experience using a computer, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Experience with Costpoint or electronic purchasing system preferred.

    Hazmat Transportation certification preferred.

    Valid Alaska drivers license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of STGs Driving PolicyAbility to pass a drug and background screening.
