    Description
    Lentech is seeking an experienced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Engineer to provide technical support to the Pointing Control System (PCS) Team for Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Operations. This support demands in-depth knowledge of, attitude determination and control algorithms and sensors and as well as modelling and simulation techniques.

    This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner.

    JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Perform analysis, calibration, and trending of instrument and sensor performance
    • Perform fault analysis and develop work-arounds. Generate technical reports and presentations. Create new and modify existing analysis and trending software tools as required to support HST operations. Develop and maintain subsystem operations procedures. Provide support for planning and execution of ground test and spacecraft operations as required.
    • Undertake requirements capture, performance trades and design activities
    • Respond to operational anomalies and provide on-call anomaly support
    • Perform fault analysis, identify associated recommendations, and develop work-arounds. Generate technical reports and presentations. Create new and modify existing analysis and trending software tools as required to support HST operations. Develop and maintain subsystem operations procedures and acquisition logic. Provide subsystem support for planning and execution of ground test and spacecraft operations as required.
    • Develop and maintain command procedures and display pages
    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline or equivalent experienced/combined education. Requires knowledge of orbital mechanics, attitude determination and control, and data analysis techniques. Ideal candidate will possess strong mathematics and programming skills (such as Java, Python, or Matlab). A BS in either Physics, Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, or related field is required. Strong oral communications and technical writing skills are required.
    • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones
    • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment
    • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
    • Have an understanding of space flight hardware and electronic systems, and with ground and test systems and software
    • Although some work may be supported remotely, must be able to work on site full time at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
    • Possess a minimum 3 years of GN&C experience, specifically with spaceflight hardware
    • Possess excellent organizational, leadership, and verbal and written communication skills
    • Must be a US citizen with ability to pass a government background investigation
    DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
    • Ideally possess 5 to 10 years or greater of relevant work experience in the aerospace industry with concentration in working with attitude control systems
    • Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
